• Who do you think the Phoenicians were? Do you think a sea faring people wouldn’t have picked up different nationalities? That’s why racism is so stupid.

        On the original point:

Mathematics during the Golden Age of Islam, especially during the 9th and 10th centuries, was built upon syntheses of Greek mathematics (Euclid, Archimedes, Apollonius) and Indian mathematics (Aryabhata, Brahmagupta). Important developments of the period include extension of the place-value system to include decimal fractions, the systematised study of algebra and advances in geometry and trigonometry.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematics_in_the_medieval_Islamic_world

      • The Phoenician alphabet descends from the Proto-Sinaitic script though. So a bunch of nomads developed Egyptian hieroglyphs into a script to write proto-Canaanite inscriptions, which was the common ancestor of the Paleo-Hebrew alphabet, the Ancient South Arabian script, and the Phoenician alphabet

    • How about the number system , we all be using Roman number system if it wasn’t for Arab mathematics.

  • Just written language, math, and the basic foundation of scientific advancement. Without those things, the brain worm might have prevented us from having to deal with him.

      • They literally saved Greek science and mathematics from extinction during the dark ages. Sure, Arabic mathematics had its mini dark age when they decided everything should be human words only to make it easier to understand for humans, then they realized that wasn’t the way to go.

      • Most glassware you see in a modern chemistry lab. Oh and not to mention the stills used to make hard liquor.

  • Watch them try to ban Arabic numerals and force everyone to use Roman numbers again.

    • I really REALLY want this to happen. It would be such a perfect example of how incredibly ignorant they are and the complete lack of understanding they have for the world around them.

Like the time a city banned “di-hydrogen monoxide” for like a day until they realized it was just a fancy name for H2O lol

      • It’s not even a fancy name, it’s very literally the scientific name of it…the shit you learn in high school science classes

      • Like the time a city banned “di-hydrogen monoxide” for like a day until they realized it was just a fancy name for H2O lol

        That’s not quite the story…

Viejo, California put a proposal on its agenda to ban plastic foam containers over the chemicals used in making them. In the proposal they listed “dihydrogen monoxide”, among other things, presumably because they likely added it to the list after failing to identify a satire website, and it went viral, mostly in right-wing circles that hate anything that protects the environment.

It never got past the proposal stage, and the “dihydrogen monoxide” part wasn’t even the reason why. They never actually banned water and had to walk that back, a Republican lied to you to make you think that.

        • I think my high school chemistry teacher told us that as a reason why it’s important to know the periodic table or something, idk what their political motivations were.

But I guess even before AI stories were getting twisted and changed to fit narratives or serve personal purposes. Thanks for the info tho, always good to know more info.

  • Robert F. Kennedy admits he is an ignorant fool when it comes to discussing science and literature.

    FtFY

  • Coming from someone who is about as bright as the inside of a black hole, sounds about right for worm brain.

  • That was a painful watch.

    But lets break this down:

His argument is that hatred, war, and victimization cause a reduction in contribution to science and literature.

You asshole, quit pointing your fingers at others and start cleaning up your own damn house.

    • His argument is that hatred, war, and victimization cause a reduction in contribution to science and literature.

I mean, in general, that’s not exactly wrong.

But the fact that these stupid apes are the ones talking about anyone or anywhere else is so absurd, given they are actively carrying out actions causing a historic brain drain in America. Him making generic claims about 500M people is really quite a choice, given what a handful of dipshits like him in this administration are carrying out.

  • What science or literature has Brainworms produced?

All I see this asshat doing is trying to sabotage proven medicine we already have, set American research back decades, and generally carry on with the conservative project of trying to roll back the Enlightenment as whole.

He can go fuck himself. It’s fine if he’s not producing science himself, but at the very least, he should get the fuck out of the way of those that can. Certainly, he should shut the fuck up about what others produce when he beclowns himself on the regular when he talks about science.

  • Controversial opinion: What RFK jr said here is what every Western person is taught in school. The West has systemically erased any non-European achievement from its literature. Going as far as to rename prominent Muslim scholars such as Ibn Sinna and Ibn Rushd and give them names like Avicenna or Averroes.

This is a way to indoctrinate studente of science by giving them the idea that all of modern science has originated from the West since all they see is Western names.

What RFK jr says here is not a failure of his own education. It is what he has been indoctrinated with by the Western education system.

    • The West has systemically erased any non-European achievement from its literature. Going as far as to rename prominent Muslim scholars such as Ibn Sinna and Ibn Rushd and give them names like Avicenna or Averroes.

      • Be me.

      • Middle ages monk.

      • Translating arabic works

      • Arabic omitted short vowels, so it was written e.g. BN.

      • My local Andalusian Arab neighbour pronounces that as Aven, Abven, Avin, and س Sin (s in sinna) was pronounced Ts.

      • So I write Avicenna.

And now some shmuck comes 1k years later and calls it malicious systemic erasure.

      • Is this the excuse they came up with?

So change it back they know what it sounds like. It is fully Latinized for a much different reason.

    • Controversial opinions are supposed to be opinions, not claims of fact. And what you said isn’t true. RFK’s idiotic opinions don’t represent the country as a whole

      • The controversial part of my claim is that he does represent the country as a whole. This is what the education system teaches people in the West.

When you look up anything about scientific achievements on the internet it will all be about 1500s to 1700s Europe, completely disregarding the 900s to 1200s Islamic golden age in Iraq, where Europe kick started most of its scientific knowledge from. Famous European scholars such as Fibonacci studied math in Algeria under Arabic teachers. Who got most of their material from the house of knowledge in Baghdad Iraq, the worldwide center of science at the time. Now only known for fake WMDs and oil.

It is an insidious type of censorship where people are selectively informed when seeking information on science. They are only told about Western achievements. Thus they start thinking what RFK said because that is their logical conclusion.

Try looking up when science kicked off or about the biggest scientific achievements and it will talk about either ancient Greece in 500bc or about the 1500s and later unless you specifically start looking for it. Always Europe.

        • When you look up anything about scientific achievements on the internet it will all be about 1500s to 1700s Europe, completely disregarding the 900s to 1200s Islamic golden age in Iraq,

          1. You literally must be looking into wrong places. No idea where and what.

          2. The golden age in the Abbasid Caliphate, not in the Iraq. Be precise here.

Golden age of Iraq was mid 20th century when poverty was minimalised, education flourished, literacy skyrocketed, and arts boomed. Just after WW2 and during oil boom.

          1. It wasn’t just Baghdad (currently in Iraq), it was Cairo, Damascus, Fez, Samarkand, etc.

most of its scientific knowledge from. Famous European scholars such as Fibonacci studied math in Algeria under Arabic teachers. Who got most of their material from the house of knowledge in Baghdad Iraq, the worldwide center of science at the time

This is such a nationalistic take. Bayt al-Hikma started with translating all other existing knowledge there was to obtain. Including Greek. Including Hindu. Took them about 200 years of doing that before they added on top of it. And now you, who claim this to be forgotten ancestor, that should’ve get credited (“Fibonacci taught by Algerians, but they should be crediting Baghdad Iraq instead”), are doing the same. Baghdad Iraq and Arabic Numerals? Please, according to your logic here, its Hindu numerals in Arabic Gobar font.

    • Did you have social studies growing up? I did, and I remember learning a slew of names that I didn’t have any idea how to pronounce.

We learned about discoveries that stemmed from various parts of the globe.

I can’t remember very much of it, because I preffered science and math classes in Junior high. This was in a small town in Texas too, in the 00s.

  • Firstly that’s super fucking racist. Secondly, the Islamic golden age famously involved a hell of a lot of science and literature being produced bt Arabs. Thirdly, in recent history there was one famous Arab guy who was so committed to producing literature he was writing books while working an extremely high stress job.
