Whistling comes from when whistling was used to communicate to stagehands to lower and lift the various backdops that used sand bags as counterweights. Whistling could cause someone up in the grid to send something down that was heavy, injuring or killing people.

The thing about the Scottish play that you mentioned (which is what most theatre folks call it) is more of an actual superstition, but may well stem from the fact that the play has a lot in it that can cause injury if not done safely, so the thought is that a lot of productions of the play can feel cursed, so that turned into referencing the play feeling cursed.

Not a job (although it takes up more than 20 hours of my week), but we commonly say “Have a good treatment!” as a greeting/goodbye at dialysis (to other patients, of course).

If I recall correctly, the problem with that mission was that if you got TOO close to the train, the shooter couldn’t hit anything, so the problem was the players did the mission TOO well. heh.

Well, technically it can, in that some piracy installs things that make them money, and that can go for their private gain or their pet projects. Kinda like how google offers you free products that make money for them.

I have a seedbox in a country that gives no fucks, so I’ll just use a DNS provider in a country that gives no fucks. You can make it harder, but you can’t make it impossible.

This is one reason I’ve relaxed my stance on Chick-Fil-A. Not that they are suddenly supporting human rights, but they did back down a bit after the outcry, and because I did a little looking a few years ago and found that MOST corporations are giving a lot of money to causes I hate, so it’s just not worth it. Then again, I try not to give big corporations money when I can avoid it, although that’s also a difficult cause that I dn’t spend too much time on.

My pragmatic approach probably isn’t popular, but I think it is more informed than knee-jerk reactions, so I’m comfortable with it.

Not trying to one-up, but I registered daychilde.com in 1996. It’s actually on my to-do to redesign again as I leaned in a bit on the AI for art, although it’s a bit older than the 2025 the articles are from. heh. I’ll get there.

Easiest way is to use IMAP connections - assuming you use IMAP normally to store email on the server (as almost everyone does these days - very few use POP3 to download them and remove from the server).

There’s a few little utilities or even websites (last I checked) that can assist in the process. Some try to charge money.

If you have access to Linux (or WSL on Windows), you can find ways to do it for free from a terminal window.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: People WILL CATCH if they do this. Let someone THINK it happened and thousands of people will start taking pics of the prices on the shelves and compare to prices on checkout.

It is extremely unlikely that they would try it. But even if they did, it is extremely unlikely they would get away with it for more than a day or two.
