If extra-judicial execution is good enough for a one year old, then it’s good enough for the toddler in chief.
- Jesusaurus@lemmy.worldEnglish10 days
Can we just skip to the end? We all know the results of the middle steps.
- 10 days
Who’s going to do the first step though? The police? The police that are bought and paid for by the people that should be arrested? The police that are actively murdering people in the streets instead of defending them?
I keep seeing this “arrest them” and “put them in jail for life” sentiment but nobody has a valid argument of how to do that in our current system without getting disappeared.

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice
Those are the exact words of the 22nd amendment. It’s explicit. There’s no ambiguity or room for other interpretations. Trump was elected twice, he’s hit his limit, that’s it.
- FrChazzz@lemmus.orgEnglish10 days
Unless those rumors are true and they did manage to game enough voting machines to clinch the election. In which case he was not actually elected twice…
- 10 days
…and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
- 10 days
And that’s why Vance and the other fascists are waiting until after the midterms to get rid of trump.
- 10 days
There better be a real fucking riots in the streets across the entire damn nation if they come out with this bullshit.
Like I mean burning down federal buildings and police stations, storming the homegrown concentration camps to free the prisoners, a literal million+ person march on Washington DC right to the front door of the White House.
They’re waiting for the elections to fix everything.
When that doesn’t work…?
- 10 days
How exactly do you guys think riots would go?
Do you think Trump would just say, “guess they don’t like me, I’ll leave office”?
Or do you think he would brutally crack down on everyone against him?
Riots would be the casus belli he wants to take military control of the country
- 10 days
Idk man. They did fly the army apache over them last time there was a big protest in Tennessee and then that time they did that weird stuff with firing the missiles in Cali. You’re right, but something has to change, I think we’re supposed to be brave and strong and united instead of shocked daily and then retreating, frightened, back under a rock to safety.

Like the riots when an insurrectionist was allowed to run for a second term after being ruled ineligible by a State?
- 10 days
But the Roberts Court, dontchaknow, intervened and went directly against the Constitution and made a BLATANTLY unconstitutional ruling that should have invalidated literally all of their appointments.
Trump was ineligible for the second term, whether or not the Roberts Court wanted to acknowledge it.
And hell will freeze over before I give those judges on the Roberts Court the dignity of referring to them with the words that other people call them or that court.
- AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.worldEnglish10 days
The election the Constitution is referring to is the Electoral College, not the general election.

10 daysSounds like the foundation of our Democracy was built on quick sand, and the cement poured by the shadiest cheapest contractor capitalism could buy.
Master@sh.itjust.worksEnglish
10 daysIts not the general votes that matter. Its the electoral college. So even if they cheated he was still elected twice.
- 10 days
“Sorry everyone, I used my hall-pass to get re-elected so it didn’t count… wah, I wanna be Mr.President again! Gimme, gimmie, gimmie”
Unless somebody stops him, he’ll do it. All the people that are supposed to check or balance his power are his minions.
Im sure he could make a convincing argument that he isnt a person and therefore should be allowed to sit for a third term.

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice
This is why is fun to own a whole ass supreme court:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice
Words are fun for this guy

The one weasel notion that I wonder about, what if he was elected VP and the president stepped down directly after? Then he wasn’t elected a 3rd time but placed by successions. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them try some such fuckary.
- 10 days
I don’t remember the exact wording, but basically to be eligible to be VP one must meet the eligibility requirements for being President. So he’s not eligible to be VP either.
But I recall someone claiming that no such eligibility requirement exists for Speaker of the House, who is in the succession line after the VP.
baronvonj@piefed.socialEnglish
10 daysthe legal
hippthesishypothesis is for the house to vote him in as speaker of the house and then the figurehead president and VP resign.- 10 days
Which could maybe work but even the more loyal bootlicker guys will prefer to be president than not.
- 10 days
If I were a fascist psychopath who had the opportunity to be part of such a scheme, I would 100% promise to step down and then not.
- humorlessrepost@lemmy.worldEnglish10 days
To prevent that, he’d need to replace the secret service with loyal sycophants.
- 10 days
They’d have to pause multiple times a day while he had his nap.
- 10 days
There is wiggle room in some amendments but this one seems pretty fucking clear.
- 10 days
It does specify that he has to be a person. Perhaps they’re going to argue he isn’t?
- 10 days
In a wild turn of events, he’s gonna change his name to Deborah and run as our first trans President, claiming the transition resulted in him being a different person.
- 10 days
Therefore, by his own logic, he shouldn’t be in office right now, because he won in 2020, riiiight?
- 10 days
Sure, but we didn’t enforce the 14th amendment section 3, which clearly states that he shouldn’t be president currently.
No one enforced our laws, so we have NO LAWS.
Which means, he can just run for president again and if no one enforced the law then it could happen again.
I agree with you on the law, but NO ONE IS ENFORCING ANY LAWS LATELY!!! So what the fuck does any of it even matter anymore? Hmm?
- 10 days
So who is going to stop it?
Trump will run again and probably win, perhaps fairly.
- 10 days
So it sounds like there’s no prohibition against running, just against winning? Sounds like an easy win for the Dems.
- 10 days
It seems pointless to run in an election you are constitutionally barred from winning. But, Trump has proven time and time again he will do pointless things. If he tried running again and somehow he won, however, the constitution is clear: it’s a no go. He can’t get elected for a third time. That said, I don’t think that’s necessarily the point. I think the point is to create chaos and crisis. Hopefully he’s not around to run in 2028 so it becomes a moot.
- 10 days
Presidential candidate gets extra protections from prosecution and can raise pac money for bribes.
- 10 days
It doesn’t matter what it says when neither courts nor law enforcement will enforce it. Looks like we’re running out of democracy boxes.
- 10 days
There’s wiggle room, he’s claiming a right to campaign. To run… He’s not saying anything about being elected.
He doesn’t actually do the electing. That’s up to public, and the officials who are in charge of elections (who he’ll try to stack with loyalists). He can’t say what they’ll do.
He runs, and if others elect him… Well… That’s the wiggle room.
- 10 days
That’s not wiggle room, it’s violating the Constitution. Not saying it can’t happen, but it’s not like that’s a logic loophole, it’s just not caring about acting illegally.
- neidu4@piefed.socialEnglish10 days
Well, he can run again. It’s just moot, as he can’t be elected. If he were to get the most electoral votes, I guess the runner up is elected?
- 10 days
No person
Ah that’ll be where he’s trying to get in again then I assume, cause he’s not a person, he’s a monster
- 10 days
I bet in his third term he will definitely release the Epstein files right guys?
- 10 days
In the third term, he’s gonna lower the price of gas and groceries & end the wars in Ukraine/Iran. Day 1. Bigly.

It’s a bigly plan, the most beautiful plan. You can’t see it, but many people are saying it’s the greatest perfect plan ever.

At this point I would vote democratic just to have a president who can speak well. We had a chuckle at the Bushification of the language but 14+ years of it getting worse is just tiresome.

Blue states shouldn’t allow him on ballots if such a thing were to happen.
FuglyDuck@lemmy.worldEnglish
10 daysThey should, eya. Just like they should have kept him off in 2024, since he was already ineligible as an insurrectionist.
but only a handful of states actually tried. funny how that worked.
- 10 days
I’ve been screaming that for years. He shouldn’t even be president NOW!! He is an illegal and illegitimate president. He violated the constitution and our laws and was never cleared of those crimes and yet holds public office. But hey, he also violates every other law or rule we have so no biggie, right?
UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.mlEnglish
10 daysHow about January 7th 2021 trump gets arrested and executed for sedition? Oh, is this a purity test to far for the democratic party?
Democrats are the cops at Uvalde. Keeping other people from going in and stopping the shooting (complicit alongside the republicans for perpetuating First-past-the-post voting, keeping others from competing against the republicans in the electoral system), yet doing nothing themselves.
Sure blue maga, blame those with no representation in government. Whatever makes you sleep at night.

10 daysAnd why wouldn’t it be?
To be a Republican is to be a grifter/conman/shitstain. Cheating is always on the table.
I know it’s hard to plan for all eventualities, but I really wish the founding fathers had covered things in a little more detail.
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice…regardless of whether the terms are consecutive.”
- 10 days
The founding fathers didn’t come up with the 22nd amendment, that was done in the late 40’s after FDR was elected four times in a row. The founding fathers intentionally left that one open, I think
- 10 days
Yes, it was intentional. They wanted the Constitution to be revised and expanded as necessary, rather than being bad law set in stone. They were well aware they couldn’t foresee the many issues that would come up, especially over time. That’s why the Constitution is often described as a “framework” for the US’s “laboratories of democracy”.
- 10 days
They genuinely don’t care. I’ve seen many clips of republicans, the whole country over, saying they’ll figure out a way to get him in a third term.
- 10 days
He just wants to run, the 22nd says he can’t be elected. Not that he can’t run.
- ClownStatue@piefed.socialEnglish10 days
He absolutely has the right to run. He certainly does not have the right to be elected. The 22nd amendment limits him to being elected twice. By all means, he should run. If anything, it will just ensure whoever the GOP nominates won’t win with The Idiot siphoning off the fascist voters.
However, by his own bullshit math (that he won the 2020 election), he shouldn’t be president now. The amendment specifically talks about being elected to the office more than twice. The only thing it says about serving in the office applies when someone else was elected the first time, and even then sets a limit on how many times that second person can be elected.
- 10 days
With his mental decline it is unlikely that he will be in any shape to overturn the constitution and mount a campaign. Then stranger things have happened.
