With AI 1000 lines can be written in a few mins.
Every programmer knows that more lines of code = better software. Encapsulation and abstraction are for suckers. CTRL+C, CTRL+V and you too can code like an AI.

The irony of using the internet on a device to post about the energy consumption of AI
Oh no. Another “you are critical of capitalism and yet iPhone” post.
the joke is considered unfunny specifically because it was AI-generated
It’s unfunny because it’s lazy and cheap. The AI only further illustrates how lazy and how cheap.
You could have done this in paint.net inside 20 minutes.

“Hey Switzerland, where’d you get all that gold from back in the 1930s?”
“Also, why did so many foreign business owners, corrupt politicians, and money laundering operations open up numbered bank accounts in your country between the 1950s and 2010s?”
Switzerland is neutral in the same way a sports bookie is neutral.

Switzerland has a weak central government and a heavily influential financial sector. They bring the Euros in and keep the Migrants out.
Idk if I’d call that “neutral” so much as “predatory” or “parasitic”. But it’s a radically different economic model than, say, France with a large labor-heavy energy-hungry agricultural sector or Germany with a large labor-heavy energy-hungry industrial sector. The economic models, and the subsequent need for foreign inputs (particularly fossil fuels and cheap human professionals) to make them work has given local governments very different geopolitical agendas.

This whole story hinges on the claims of a nosy housewife calling the police on some people she mistook for Arabs.
Out of that report, and the eventual deportation of the arrested Israel men, came a cascade of increasingly embellished accusations.
It’s all just layers of bullshit.

Pretty sure there are documented cases of Vietnam vets getting abuse when they returned.
There are scenes in Rambo: First Blood and Platoon that included this event. But there is no notable actual incident or documented recurrence of it happening IRL.
I’m pretty sure it happened to more than a handful
Congratulations, you’re experiencing the Mandela Effect.

That’s what Donald Trump claimed.
It was a regular FOX News Channel allegation. Afghans were cheering, Iraqis were cheering, Syrians were cheering, Libyans were cheering, Gazans were cheering, Somalis in Minnesota were cheering, Hasan Piker was cheering, Zohran Mamdani was cheering…
Pick your “Muslims I Don’t Like” Flavor of the Month. They were cheering, I tell you.

Perspective matters a lot.
I’ve heard a bizarrely high number of relatives and friends complain that they vividly remember people cheering right after the 9/11 attacks. And the folks cheering tended to be whomever this relative thought was problematic - stupid woke college kids, scary Muslims, scary Israelis, smug neocons, bitter aging Marxists, rural yokels, California/Texas shitheads - an absolute grab bag of People I Don’t Like.
Certainly, over the last 25 years, I’ve seen a lot of social media and partisan news advance the theory that someone was cheering after 9/11. In the same way, I’ve heard pundits insist people were spitting on Vietnam Veterans in airports back in the 60s/70s. Or the various Crime Wave / Drug Crisis horror stories of the 1980s that seemed to inspire every low-budget TV thriller and family drama show.
If you’re not even alive as this stuff happens, it’s easy to get all the wrong information from elder peers who did live through it. Or just through the increasingly distorted retellings offered up by a media more keen on selling narrative than document the recent past.

The committee warns MIT professors against replacing undergraduate research assistants with AI agents just because they’re cheaper, because a university exists to grow people, not output.
Undergrads are notoriously criminally underpaid. This is the academic equivalent of taking all the pennies out of the “Take a Penny Leave a Penny” tray to save money.
Morsi won office in a popular election, lasted barely two years, and then was couped and imprisoned.
I wouldn’t call that interm period a dictatorship, if for no other reason than it stood in stark contrast to the periods immediately before and after. There was no well-defined national leader. Bureaucrats were still shuffling around and rebuilding a power base, before settling on el-Sisi.
Mubarak had been dominating the county since the 1980s. The 2011 to 2013 period was a brief period of not-dictatorship
This would be funnier if Egypt was a democracy and not a horrifying dictatorship
Jesus doing far-left radical anti-government extremist propaganda. If Donald Trump had been Caeser, he’d have done something about it
