I say other way around, there’s no fat, sugar (especially HFCS) or carcinogenic chemicals in it.

There is some form of processed butter and cream in that packet already. And probably microplastic in the lining of the pouch, if not coming off the machine that processed the potatoes.
- 5 days
Well obviously you need to add a stick of butter and handful of salt, wtf kind of boring potatoes are you making?
- ThisOne@lemmy.worldEnglish5 days
Thru hikers are fine with this. Though I used a ziploc so I could reuse the bag multiple times. Add some wild garlic too.
Did you use a spoon or did you cut a hole in the corner pastry bag style and tape it back up next time?
- ThisOne@lemmy.worldEnglish5 days
Spoon but I also turned it inside out to lick it clean. More sanitary that way for the next night
Normal people think you are joking, but as hiker trash I’ve been doing the same for years and I love it. I usually add some cheese, an olive oil pouch, salt, pepper, and maybe some dehydrated veggies and a cut up summer sausage if I’m really hungry. It makes for an excellent dish.

Ramen bombs are the best!
Dont forget that packet of crushed red pepper flakes thats been floating around the bottom of the food bag

Joking aside this is the best way to fill manicottis

Sure, sure.
But for a week plus of meals its a lot cheaper. I’d usally bring like one fancy backpacker meal for a 5 day stretch if they had any good ones in town. NO MOUNTAIN HOUSE.
Plus you can put other stuff in there. Miso soup & ramen, Asian style. Tvp, taco seasoning, some chips if you pass a gas station on a road walk, taco night. Gotta have some variety.

This is called “cold soaking” in the backpacking community but the bottle is a neat innovation.
I heard Mormon teens use that turn of phrase for a different thing.

5 daysThis calls for a piping bag or something only slightly more rigid like a kewpie mayo bottle. You aren’t going to get more than a few squeezes out of that water bottle.
What kind of monster does this without butter?
I think the flexibility of the cheap water bottle is a plus here. Also, sucking is an option. On the bottle, I mean.

Powdered mash usually already has plenty of butter/butter flavor, the packet in the meme for instance says it has butter and sour cream.
- NoForwadSlashS@piefed.socialEnglish5 days
I’m just going to put potato and butter flavour in my water, no more thick consistency!
Eat the powder and then drink the water. Saves a plastic bottle. Not only does it assert dominance, it’s the eco friendly option!
- 4 days
You’re still using a plastic bottle. The more environmentally friendly option would be to wash it and reuse it every day for your morning potatoes.

fuckit, why not. I tried the dragon cum drink and that was awesome

Changed my mind again after actually thinking about it. I do not want to clean starch out of my toy.

You’re supposed to start with a whole potato and mash it inside yourself with the bad dragon.

This is, by far, the least vile thing he ever made and/or ate.

Hot water would melt that bottle if you wanted extra micro plastics.

So you can mix that with some flour and water in a gallon bag, cut the corner, and squeeze into boiling tomato sauce.
Homemade tomato sauce with homemade gnocchi in 20 minutes is p great.
If you need a protein, you can start your sauce with thin discs of sausage, get all the grease out of the sausage and use it to fry up some garlic (maybe add oil if there’s not enough grease), chili peppers, onion, then add tomatoes, canned is fine, and water if needed.

I wouldn’t consider them mashed. We get dehydrated processed potatoes in sachets.

I think it would actually be better if You ate the powder and washed it down with water.

You would think too little water would make them terrible, but too much water makes the texture unimaginably bad
