Like Goddam man what in the goddam, just don’t use the goddam word if you needed to goddam censor it.

Got to keep the Lemmy sponsors happy and the money flowing. :)

      • Dem big Lemmy bucks.

I just picture the episode of SouthPark where the boys try to get the internet money for what what in the butt. But internet is all crossed out and replaced with Lemmy.

  • My house came with these. The washer shook itself to pieces internally, something broke inside and made a HORRIBLE sound when spinning. Prior to that, it sounded like the main bearing was failing. It would make very loud screech sound when it started up or stopped. I think they were three or four years old. The washer would frequently refuse to spin, so it’d leave the laundry soaked and I’d have to force a spin load.

Dryer was fine, but driers kind of last forever.

Replaced the washer with a speed queen and got a free gas dryer from a relative.

Hope yours do better. Maybe the previous owners washed a weighted blanket or something.

    • It was so cool. There’s a toilet directly in front of it, too. So sometimes when I take a shit, I get done and then stand up and look at the clothes getting washed.

    • So I’m not the only on sitting on my bathroom floor watching the front-loading washing machine do its thing through the window. I find it mesmerizing and oddly meditative.

      • I do my laundry in the communal basement laundry room which has 3 washers. I despise the front loader that keeps getting stuck, so I use the top loaders, but I like watching other people’s laundry slosh around. So I love the idea of a see-through top loader.

    • What have they done to you? We have a two year protection plan with my best buy card, we will see. Maybe they will break the repair man will just shit in it.

      • Not sure about them but I’ve an anecdote:

A few years back they had a batch of bad boards for washers across all their brands. Any of the cheaper/lower end models with the simple dial and five (or six?) green LED lights to indicate the current cycle. Specifically it was a bad pressure sensor for detecting fill level. It’d fail and then the washer would run the pump non-stop trying to expel water that wasn’t there. Some folks ended up with burnt out pumps on top of the bad board as a result.

Our Amana failed in under a year. Whirlpool eventually put out a service bulletin about it and replacement boards would be provided free if a tech found them to be needed. The boards were backordered unobtanium and cost nearly the price of the washer so that DIY route was closed. It also meant techs probably wouldn’t have new boards on their vans, so two service calls guaranteed. If I recall, the TSB didn’t waive call-out/labor so once again we’d be looking at over half the cost of the machine even without paying for the board. I was livid.

Eventually I found a few YouTube repair videos, almost all of which pointed to someone who’d made a side gig out of the fiasco by hocking new sensors for $25 a pop. Guess they were the quickest and became the de facto source. So I ordered one, some wick and wire, and picked up my iron for the first time in years. It was ugly but the washer has been working ever since, no thanks to Whirlpool.

  • Any reason for this model in particular? We’re looking for a new washer and trying to pick a mid range model is frustrating. We can’t drop 1-2k on a speed queen but I still want us to get something decent.

  • Vertical-drum washing machine? In 2026? You’re gonna waste so much water… There are top loaders with a horizontal drum with its own doors, if space in front is a concern

    • Top loader for life. I’ve seen way too many educational videos of people stuck in front load washing machines, those things are deathtraps.

What the hell are you saying? A top load washer with a horizontal drum? Please link if this is a real thing, it makes zero sense.

Oh man, you guys get some of the coolest shit… We can’t get those in the states.

          • They are quite narrow, pretty cool for saving floor space… The only vertical drum I’ve seen though was at a public swimmming pool’s hair-drying room, the device was a quick spin dryer for a single swimsuit. So that’s a choice we don’t have.

  • This is posted in the wrong community.

Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience.

  • I hope you got the extended warranty. Whirlpools are known to only last two or so years…

But, yes, those are quite nice.

  • Nice I hope they work great for a long time! I tried an HE top load like this once and it worked for pillows great, where my front load washer couldn’t get the balance right to spin them dry. My washer also tangles long sleeves and pant legs which I don’t like. My trusty old Kenmore/Whirlpool dryer with woodgrain is this same style with the hamper door and top lint trap. I’ll get the same again if I need a new one. Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir, and Amana are part of Whirlpool too if others are shopping around.

  • I’ve had a washing machine just like that one. Absolutely loved it. My wife also loved doing large loads of laundry. I recommend buying replacement suspension rods for your model. It’s very common for them to break, and it always happens at the worst possible time. But after you’ve spent an hour replacing one, the next one can be swapped in 5mins.

      • Yes. The drum has 4 rods with springs built in around it so a slightly imballanced load spins they catch and correct the weight. On my model you just compressed the spring and popped the rod into place. But the springs would occationally explode, or the rod would bend. If you notice the drum leaning one way or making funny noises, that’s likely the problem.

The tough part on mine was figuring out how to open the top. It hinged up like a trash can, but you had to muscle it a bit and it was new and I didn’t want to break it, so it took longer to open than it should have the first time.

There’s a ton of youtube videos walking you through it step by step.
