Does “from the river to the sea” mean ethnic cleansing of Israelis? I didn’t know that.

My limited knowledge of the situation is Jewish people left the area due to conflict, thousands of years passed, the Holocaust happened, British somehow “negotiated” their return (under threat of violence to the then-local population) and displaced Palestinians but Palestinians had some land, it just wasn’t as much, Jewish people were attacked and then retaliated by taking more land in the 7 days war, some Palestinians were mad at Israel and tried to attack Israel with rockets and other attacks, Israel then put tremendous and horrible restrictions on all Palestinians that were unreasonable and terrible and it just existed like that (and this part of the situation I believe is greatly understated as being a main cause of this situation), Palestinians elected Hamas that wanted to kill all Jewish people, Hamas killed and kidnapped a bunch of Jewish teenagers at a rave, many of whom were having fun and probably on ecstasy when the attack happened which in some ways is more horrifying, and then also killed a bunch of Israelis in settlements, including babies, then Israel retaliated against Hamas by in theory targeting specific Hamas members but also committing a huge massive number of war crimes, many of which were documented on TikTok, and then TikTok was bought out to try to hide the war crimes and Jewish allies tried to do things like dismantle or weaken the International Criminal Court, then people who were against war crimes were fired from work and penalized for speaking out, which looked really bad for Jewish people, even Jewish people who weren’t a part of the situation.

I knew Hamas wanted to kill all Jewish people. I just didn’t know that slogan means ethnic cleansing of Jewish people. It’s hard to think in those terms when most of the dead people are Palestinians, many of whom likely weren’t political, but does it mean that? Because I’ve heard a lot of liberal and leftist types repeat that; is it actually a call for Jewish ethnic cleansing?, because that is quite scary.

This may be a post that primarily just illustrates my ignorance of geography. What river? What sea? Perhaps it seems innocuous because I don’t understand International geographical stuff, sort of like how some people from the US say Europe is a county they never want to visit. It’s interesting to me because I’m somewhat ignorant, but so are lots of people. Do most people view that slogan as a call for ethnic cleansing?

It still doesn’t mean the war crimes were okay. There was a ton of stuff just posted on TikTok, all out in the open, for months, until it was bought out and taken down.

So I still believe you can support human rights and not be an antisemite and be critical of human rights abuses of Gazans, but this is the sort of joke an antisemite might make. The again, he apologized.

I really believe people should be able to accidentally make mistakes and fuck up and not get cancelled. But this does put a slightly different spin on things where I can understand why people would question things. Because it’s more than just a mild costume, it’s reminiscent of historical Nazi depictions of Jewish people.

He may have just genuinely fucked up and not realized how disrespectful that was… or maybe he is an antisemite. But it’s sort of like the Musk Hitler salute and “how could you not know what that means or how people would react?” I think Makelmore is probably a decent person based on his history and probably just massively fucked up, but I could be wrong on that, and I really wish I didn’t have to wonder.

I still think Gazans are being treated horribly and human rights violations are occurring and people shouldn’t be penalized for wanting human rights standards.

I am not trying to argue this, but some people will say “It just looks like a linux distro that is designed to be more agentic friendly, even if some of its backers have unscrupulous pasts.” What is the response to this? Because I’m sure it’s vibe-coded and insecure, but there aren’t really linux distros that are agentic first distros and some computer enthusiasts really like AI. And yes, people can just install Jan or LM Studio on their own in another distro, but some people may want open source code and linux designed for AI. I know people on Lemmy often hate AI, so please don’t hate me for writing this. I just don’t totally get the reasoning aside from some people involved in the project seem to be assholes… or is that the reasoning?

To be honest, if not for security concerns I’d probably try this distro if it weren’t somehow linked to anti-trans things, which makes anything completely toxic. But I looked at the Omarchy page just to see what it looked like and conceptually for people interested in agentic stuff, it didn’t look that bad, it seemed sort of interesting.

Trans people are some of the best network engineers and coders out there and greatly help the open source community. Any open source project that isn’t kind to trans people should be ignored. Maybe that’s the point? That normally a project like this linked to anything anti-trans would be rejected by the open source community and it’s only through soulless corporations and right wing tech bros that this is existing?
