i forget i’ve written some for niche fandoms, and my special interest is my own work in my head that is derivative of another (star wars) but enough it’s unrecognizable and whatever similarities are more like allusion.
i like really vapid fluff and even vapid fics based on already vapid media, but often i find the best written fics in random random places that are honestly a wee crazy or like, you shouldn’t be writing that (rpf).
what do you like? what r ur interests?

The one I’m writing right now. I would give a serious answer but it seems like everyone is joking around so I’ll keep it to myself lmao.
I personally have never looked at fanfics except the one made by @amemorablename
I only saw it after they sent me the link.
There’s a problem in my account where I can’t see some comments or accounts unless they talk directly to me.
Like, I can see your “Harry Potter and the crippling debt” comment, but not who you responded to.
They are referring to this comment in the thread, which I wrote spontaneously upon seeing their joke about “harry potter and the crippling debt”: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/13072191/8856170
I have written other fiction, but not so much “fanfiction” themed after a specific existing world usually and not published stuff I could point to. I am pretty bad historically about actually finishing novel projects to the extent of calling them done and then committing to finding a way to get them published, even if self-publishing. I have tended to live in draft hell, partly because of my ideological transformation over the years and the realization of how lib my stories could be, or just how inadequate at conveying what I’d prefer to convey ideologically now. And partly just general perfectionism and feeling a draft is not up to the standards I want it to be.
I think the consequences of the CIA’s impact on writing dogma has held me back a lot: https://www.openculture.com/2018/12/cia-helped-shaped-american-creative-writing-famous-iowa-writers-workshop.html
I tend to get in my head easily about what qualifies as “good” fiction writing, and I suspect some of it comes down to a poor theoretical model for writing induced by the CIA’s chopping up and cordoning off to turn writing pedagogy into something that served their interests.
CIA’s impact
I read this and it’s very… lovecraftian, for the lack of a better word. CIA is fucking everywhere. There’s really no such thing as “class neutrality”.
I don’t know if this is gonna help you, but I encourage you to try to keep a notebook with blank pages and just write whatever in it. Like, I write down notes on random thoughts, ideas for code, scribbles and doodles, notes on The Capital etc. with zero organization (besides the date).
It helps. Like, why don’t you try to write about your thoughts on how the CIA influenced you? How you personally feel about this or self-publishing.
I dunno. If I were to make an analogy, it’s like other thoughts take away RAM memory that could be used for writing.
I like these guides:
- https://writingprocess.mit.edu/process/step-1-generate-ideas/instructions/freewriting/ (MIT, so maybe there might be CIA influence, but it’s mostly about generating ideas, not composing stories)
Yeah, it’s wild sometimes the things you can find out about what they did. Just how pervasive they’ve been. Thanks for your encouragement. I’ll try to keep that in mind. Sounds a lot like what people call freewriting, what you’re suggesting, where you kinda just write as stream of consciousness. I have done something like that before, but never as a habit. Could probably help to try to make it into a habit though.

My own, because I get to indulge in all the things I wanted to see/experience. My longest is around 245k or so and it’s the first out of two parts - so around 500k+ once I am done.

Im a fan of My Chemical Romance so clearly the Waycest ones are pretty good.
The vocalist and bassist are brothers and people wrote explicit erotic fics shipping these actual brothers and giving it a nickname because it’s so prevalent even.
Although nothing beats the time a bunch of degenerate kpop fans made a book with all thier fanfics in it and “accidentally sent it to the dorm of the band involved” they were mailing it to each other and putting the dorm as the senders address to i dunno make it seem like they were getting it from them? But somebody fucked up and it got returned to sender

The Book of Mormon is pretty funny. It reads very much like an illiterate guy was dictating it off the top of his head while knowing a bare minimum of the source material.
It’s a series of videos. A fandub in german of parts of the lotr movies, a certified classic.

Lol I’ll check it out after I finish TLotR. I’m on the second volume now.

Outlander and Project Hail Mary. Some of the PHM ones can be a bit weird though, there’s a whole subgenre of them where Grace (the human) and Rocky (the crab like alien) fall in love, consummate their love and Grace fertilises Rocky’s egg and they wait to become parents together.

depends what fandom but also some of my favorites ouh you couldn’t pry them out of me. but sue me i do love really self-indulgent empty fluff (but if i look in my bookmarks i’m sure i can find some good ones)
will think about which ones i would feel not super silly to recommend and start shooting
Here, I made it for you.
Harry Potter and the Crippling Debt
“I can’t believe these student loans,” Harry said, poring over the records, his head in his hands.
Ron paused in the middle of eating a crisp to point at the screen, “That is a lot of galleons, isn’t it. We make good money as Auror’s though, right? Can’t take took long to pay off.”
Hermione stepped into the room in time to catch Ron’s remark. “It will take,” she said with some disdain, “At least several decades. I worked out the math. We’re all trapped in it.” She wrinkled her nose in disgust. “It turns out saving the world doesn’t save you from crippling student debt.”
“At least we have each other though, eh,” Ron chortled.
“Actually, about that. That’s what I was coming in here to talk to you two about. They’re deporting me.”
“What?!?” Harry and Ron cried in unison, their attention now squarely on her.
“My parents were muggles. I’ve been trying to figure out how to fight it in the courts, but my options are limited and with anti-muggle sentiment on the rise, it may not be very safe for me here anyway.”
“We’ll fight it,” Harry pounded his fist.
“Yeah!” Said Ron, clapping Harry on the shoulder.
Hermione sighed, “It’s a nice sentiment, but this isn’t like Voldemort. This is an entire system working against us. We can’t just kill one man and be done with it. Another will take his place. We would have to, well…”
“Well what?” Ron prompted, full of obvious excitement at the prospect of more adventure.
“Well, it’s like Lenin says,” Hermione said with a shrug. “We would have to seize the means of production.”
Harry looked skeptical.
Ron got red in the face and clenched his hands into fists, “What’s gotten into you, Hermione, are you some kind of commie?!?”

Is this something that exists? Can’t find it by googling.
What makes HP and the free market funny is that HP is left a huge inheritance by his parents. So it makes sense why he is so positive about free markets.
I was making a joke, but I assume “Harry Potter and the free market” is also a joke as well.

It’s a copypasta fanfic
