this is not me being like “ouughghh i give up on it ouhh so stupid” it’s more like the reflexive fuck i’m so frustrated that i got in my own way so many times and was a poor student who weakened my own basic knowledge, now i wish i could just give up.
but i can’t and there’s no good reason to surrender because, aside from it being necessary to learn, i can do it, i’m great! (not as in i know everything, as in i have the confidence to persevere in the face of my own chuddery.)
and i won’t be self indulgent pretending i can’t. is this setback which is my own fault annoying? yes. am i angry and embarrassed with myself? yes. does that mean i have the urge to childishly pretend it’s not my fault and go sulk without forcing myself through the unpleasantness of starting from scratch? it absolutely does, but i won’t let that stop me like a chud
just because i made childish mistakes doesn’t mean that i’m stupid and worthless and should never try once more. i’ll even be extra niceys to myself and extra confident so i can promise to myself i’ll improve again in this self-study. i will find whatever works for me however long it takes and however annoying it feels trying to work with myself. i won’t let myself be my own worst enemy, i will be my friend, and i will force it to work by any means i can

thinking about the way schooling is standardized along years makes me extremely, extremely frustrated and mad. youre right the idea that top of class is make or break is already ludicrous, but the fact that i’ve felt before that i liked a subject but couldn’t ‘catch up’ in time to warrant taking the course and had to switch out makes me really really mad.
so this comparison actually helps even more because i realize, it is sort of voluntary, it’s self-managed study and i have no need to impose such constraints and deadlines on myself. your point is really true and useful
