Why are so many countries electing criminals? And why do they all seem to have the same agenda.

Of course she will, what else would you expect from a Putin sock puppet. The only news worth element here is that she is openly admitting it.
She is a traitor like her colleagues in other member states. Putting Russian interests above French interests.

Keeping Europe small and fragmented, so it is an easier target for the larger powers to play with. Somehow that’s the single common thing all of these politicians all over Europe that like to call themselves ‘patriotic’ want to do.
Be it Le Pen in France, the AfD in Germany, …, if all of these really were so great for us Europeans, how come they are so staunchly supported by our global adversaries in Moscow and Mar-a-Lago?

Musk and Thiel are literally funding all of this. If one country had the balls to do what we are all thinking, it could help the whole world
- Raiderkev@lemmy.worldEnglish1 day
I met Thiel once briefly about a decade ago. The guy was a total cunt. I interacted with him for all of 10 seconds and he pissed me off to the point I wanted to punch him in the face… I truly regret not doing it.

Tbf, the romanticised view towards Moscow / Beijing is something also found regularly on the left side of the spectrum. The passed on opposition towards Washington and “the Western World” is so engrained that they don’t realise that the guy in Washington and the guy in Moscow meanwhile are happily holding hands, while Beijing (the “Moscow surrogate” after 1991) has left the spheres of socialism long ago and is becoming more capitalist and power-hungry by the minute.
None of these are our friends, none of these have our interest in mind, none of these want a striving, strong and independent Europe. Yet, a remarkably high portion of people here on the continent (on either side of the political spectrum) can only see us as the small, dependent fosterling of a “large power” and their whole debate is limited to whether that supervisor should sit west or east of us.
- SomeOneWithA_PC@feddit.orgEnglish2 days
also found regularly on the left side of the spectrum.
Like lunatics that in my point of view already fell of from what left should mean, or my understanding and position is the real middle which nowadays is already put into far left? Left is not anti-west, whatever “west” should mean as a unit (that actually doesn’t exist).
I agree with your sentiment, especially the second paragraph. It’s also not just left or right and you have to decide. We already have a lot of good rules written down and ratified by the majority of humanity and do not need to argue about basic human rights anymore. if you break them, that’s bad and wrong, no matter where you stand and as what you call yourself. The best options we have so far is individual freedom restricted by sane rules, so law and democracy with a closely regulated free market. Nowadays infrastructure might be handled more like in a planned economy, so that part can become more “left” imho. Free elections would also be more sane and clear, if not a strong minority would be able to pay a lot to steer public opinion and media, as their expenditure for it makes sure they can get even more and not pay their fair share.
Still i understand why it is so easy to say and like other weak groups/minorities are the cause for the regular persons hardships.

Threatens to Cut Support for Ukraine if Elected
I am reading this as an easy instruction: Do not vote for her.

You are right but the sad and harsh reality is that French people will vote who they think can solve their problems, not the problems of other countries.
Is it short-sighted ? Of course, but it also seems extremely logical.- GreyEyedGhost@piefed.caEnglish1 day
What these people don’t recognize is that if Ukraine stops impeding Russia, it will be their problem.

Don’t forget the Netherlands…
We take the cake when it comes to right-wing extremist parties: PVV, FvD, BBB, JA21 and Project2029 (yeah, the latter isn’t a joke).
The first two are confirmed to have received funding from Russia and the first four advocate a pro-Russian stance on the Ukraine war.
Plenty of simpletons in the Netherlands.

IIRC it was “only” 7 million Euros. Though in rubles it likely has more digits.
Importantly, it became a loan because French courts ordered the Le Pen to pay the money back.

- anticurrent@sh.itjust.worksEnglish2 days
According to a feb 2026 survery only 47% of French people agree to continuing military support for Ukraine.
And according to the recent presidential elections polls, the parties that advocate for a prompt end of the war and cutting military support to Ukraine account for 55% of the total intentions of the vote.
-
Marine le Pen : 34%
-
Melenchon: 15%
-
Fabien Roussel: 2.4%
-
Nicolas Dupont Aingan: 2.3%
In short you must brace for the reality that sentiment towards continual military support is turning against Ukraine, and in times of financial hardships people tends to favor their immediate interests rather than a hypothetical future threat.

According to the red cross, 11 million french people can’t feed themselves properly and are skipping meals.
-
The number of uni students relying on food banks to feed themselves is close to a majority
-
Unemployment among the youth is at records high, never have the youth been disenfranchised about their future
-
This year is the second year in a series where purchasing power keeps shrinking, and the government can’t subsidize salaries anymore
-
Because of the war in Ukraine, french defense spending is exploding and is expected to be double of that before the war, eating away from the budget that could otherwise be oriented to lifting salaries and improving social services
-
Tomorrow 17 Oct is the expected return of the Jillets Jaunes. Big Protests all over the country, with people of all walks of life to protest against the cost of living.
The list is way bigger and I know that most of your entitled opinions don’t care about the realities of other people’s lives. but your indignation won’t change the realities of people’s lives and them putting their interests first.
- Siegfried@lemmy.worldEnglish1 day
If they think that all of this is because of ukraine, then they are very stupid +1
Kjell@lemmy.worldEnglish
21 hoursThey do not think it is because of Ukraine, but the money France is spending on their defense and Ukraine could be spent on other things. If you feel that everything gets worse in your country while the leaders spend more and more on a foreign country, then the easy option is to support someone who wants to reduce that cost. In best case those billions can be used to help the French.
I do not agree with that, I think Europe should spend more money to help Ukraine, but I can see why some people are thinking like that.
- 2 days
So all of this is somehow Ukraine’s fault? Yeah no they’re just stupid. Keep acting like letting Russia control 20% of the world’s grain supply will somehow make your life better, idiot.
- anticurrent@sh.itjust.worksEnglish2 days
When you have no counter arguments you resort to distorting my points. I didn’t say it’s ukraine’s fault. Like I said you sure are not struggling, if your most important concern is who is in control of the world’s 20% grain supply. Let’s ask those people about who should be in control of that supply and see if it is one of the concerns as well.
