President Donald Trump spoke before an adoring crowd in Tennessee Saturday, telling his fans, “I could say the stupidest things and you’d clap.”

He finally said what we were all saying this entire time. I hope those stupid people could understand what their stupidity has cost this nation.
- 5 days
He’s said in multiple occasions that he loves the poorly educated. Also, smart people don’t like him.
Directly calling your supporters stupid and they cheer.
- 4 days
I think there’s a lot of rich smart people who like him.
- bedwyr@piefed.caEnglish4 days
If they like him they aren’t smart by definition, as he will fuck everything up.
- 4 days
You’re right only if you consider empathy and care for others as smart.
Execs at big companies have made tons of money. Trump has done amazing things to steal wealth from the majority and transfer it up to the wealthiest 0.1%.
It is smart to support Trump if you’re in the top 0.1%, greedy, and don’t care about anyone else but yourself
I’d argue they probably don’t like him, but that doesn’t mean they won’t use him to gain more wealth.

They’re like, hate junkies.
Hate is the opiate of the masses. Some say it’s religion, but that’s incorrect. Religion is merely a syringe of choice.
I’m not a great lip reader, but that woman in red on the back left looks like she says “That’s true” right after he says it.
He’s making fun of you, Barbara.

Mob mentality and groupthink are very powerful. On another note, trump does say the stupidest things.

TL;DR: Taken out of context, but turd is still a turd.
I am anti trump as much as any sane person but I’m also anti propaganda. Although I know nobody is immune to it, I believe it’s important to note that context matters.
context matters If you actually listen to it, he’s telling the supporters that he’s willing to come have a rally in places he’s already won because the people are so supportive and there’s a lot of love in the community. He then went on to say that he could come out and say the stupidest thing and they’d still cheer him on.
The context is that he was saying the crowds were supportive and loving, not that they were stupid.

I don’t think that makes it better…
If you clap at stupid things to be supportive, you’re still stupid.

You’re right of course, but the context changes the meaning anyway. He’s complimenting them, not insulting (at least not intentionally).
Idk, I feel like anybody who cheers for a specific person, no matter what they say, refusing to think critically or consider disagreeing, is a fucking moron. Even if he didn’t mean to directly call them stupid, he’s still indirectly calling them stupid imo.
The inverse is also true. I don’t automatically disagree with everything trump says just because he’s a stupid, hateful, narcissistic fascist. I’m glad he discontinued the penny, is against changing clocks for the DST switches twice a year, and the quick rollout of COVID vaccines was a big win. I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head, but it’s important to acknowledge good shit even if it comes from a child raping dipshit. I’m not gonna pretend that I like the penny just because an adjudicated rapist dislikes the penny, and I also don’t like the pants-shitting fuckface just because we agree that changing clocks is dumb as fuck.
A lot of people liked Kanye’s music, and since coming out as an unapologetic Nazi, a lot of those people are not Kanye fans anymore. Those ex-fans adapted in ways that these forever trumpers are incapable of. Because they’re fucking stupid.

Somehow I don’t think it’s out of context? Someone who is so supportive and loving to the point of ignoring the most blatant stupidity is a damn right dangerous idiot and a fool, and trump very clearly captured that.
- Rothe@piefed.socialEnglish4 days
That doesn’t change the meaning in any way though. It seems to me thou doest protest too much.
I’m not seeing how that’s not calling them stupid. Not really out of context at all actually.
- BillyClark@piefed.socialEnglish5 days
That being said, politicians at the highest levels are supposed to be good enough at their jobs that they don’t say things like that which can be easily taken out of context. I mean, it’s not like the person who quoted him only used part of the quote to change the meaning of the sentence. He literally meant what it said.
Some people like Trump for the fact that he’s absolute shit as a politician, but I think there’s some use in electing a person who is actually smart enough to be a good politician.

He says/does a lot of stupid things that his lackeys are forced to ignore or try to dismiss as a joke. Bragging/praising crowd’s unconditional love for the stupid crook is an example of a dumb thing to say.

I think it’s less about context and more about intent. I think his intent (and I assume the way the crowd interpreted it) was “I can talk about insignificant things like what I had for breakfast and you’d still find it exciting.”
Anyone with half a brain hears it as “you are so sycophantic that it doesn’t matter what I say, to the degree that I could openly insult you and you’d still cheer”
His followers hear it as “I appreciate you for supporting me, even when I talk about things that don’t interest you”

The “context” doesn’t make it better. He’s literally telling them point blank that he can say whatever he wants and they’ll still cheer and love him. I’ll never understand people like you who come up with these ridiculous apologetics for Trump.
Stop fucking enabling him.

Democracy doesn’t work when the base is this dumb. Need to find another way.

4 daysIt is fascinating really, what kind of word spouted from trump so his supporter gonna jeer and give middle finger instead?
maybe when he speech about everybody need to be nice to each other ?
They booed him once. It was during COVID, he had spent the last 6 months calling it fake, but at some point for a brief moment he realized it was serious. He told everyone at his rally they needed to get the vaccine. The crowd turned on him quick.
TomMasz@piefed.socialEnglish
4 daysEither they’re not actually listening to the words or they are listening and it doesn’t matter to them.
I can’t decide which is worse.
- maxthemummer@lemmus.orgEnglish4 days
I think it’s his tone of voice that matters most to his audience, the words go by too quickly for them to process, much like when you speak to a dog.
- 4 days
I have literally said some of the meanest things (I’m willing to say) my dog using a nice voice. She just wags her tail and comes in for snuggles.
- 5 days
Spoiler alert, everything that comes out of your mouth is the stupidest. And I would love it if someone would clap you upside your head.
- 4 days
Look at the faces of the fucking morons behind him after he says this.
They’ll learn absolutely nothing from this, either.
