These people don’t do their own shopping. Anything they say about groceries is most likely wrong. Fucking hell Trump didn’t even know the word groceries until a while back.
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.worldEnglish
5 daysI mean, it was hilarious when Poppy was amazed by grocery scanners, but donnie going on about the word “groceries”, sounding like an alien in a skin suit is 1000x that.
- 5 days
I honestly wish they would take Trump into a supermarket to buy stuff. Or maybe use the self-checkout. That would be some amazing comedy show.
- billwashere@lemmy.worldEnglish4 days
These people are so completely out of touch it’s painful.
Anybody that wants to be president should go through a mandatory 6 month immersion course where they have to live on 40k a year in middle America. Don’t even make it difficult where they’d also have to support a spouse and two kids on that income. Oh, and make them work a retail job that’s at least 30 min from home. And they have to drive a 15 year old American car as well. Heck turn it into a reality tv show. Call it something like “Really Presidential” or “The Real Candidates of DC”
- 4 days
40K in middle America is probably much easier because cost of living is cheaper. I’m assuming you mean living in literally the middle of the US like Kentucky or something? Middle America is technically Mexico and Central America.
40K in NYC, SF, Chicago, etc would probably be a better learning experience than 40K in Kentucky.
- billwashere@lemmy.worldEnglish4 days
I was thinking somewhere like rural NC but yes middle of the US.

She has unleashed untold evils on society. From “doctor” Phil, to John of God, she sells evil wrapped up in a package that housewives just can’t resist.
Anyone from PA will remember him shopping at Wegners for his “crudité”. This is no surprise

Part of me wishes he would have won. Then the dnc could have someone else run to replace him instead of being stuck with fetterman.
Eh… Fetterman was the better choice. Too bad there’s no mechanism to recall our shit politicians.
Either way he’s toast. Dems won’t vote for him and he’s got way too many liberal sound bites from his past that the GOP won’t vote for him either.
I do feel for his wife, who has been silent ever since the stroke.
Not to give this admin any credit, but he isn’t wrong. He said $1 per stick, not per pound. I can get a Kroger 4 stick pack for $3.49 at my local store.
- 4 days
This is honestly a nothingburger gotcha. He’s actively lying about the cost of living, and I’m glad that someone at Fox has the courage to call him out on it, but this is a confusing and easily-explained-away example; “he was just holding up the pack to demonstrate what he was talking about, obviously he meant a stick!” They should do the price of gas instead.
OK? I just read the quote in the article and the words he said was true. I’m certain that Oz is an out of touch rich asshole, but the statement he mad was correct. If I were to venture a guess, he was probably parroting some PR goon that made the comment about the price per stick and then the out of touch loser called a whole pack a stick. Regardless though, the price per stick comment was correct enough and even if it weren’t I don’t really care.
There are so so many things that this administration says and does that are asinine at best, blatantly evil at worse. Shit like this is a distraction and a non-issue. Who gives a fuck if he said butter was 1 cent a stick. He’s a rich prick. I don’t expect him to know a fucking thing about grocery prices. I’m more concerned with his policies as the head of CMS and how they will fuck over those on medicaid and medicare.
- 4 days
Correct, that’s why it should be called out though. Presenting one thing, then calling it another is lying. Good on the reporter for calling out the bullshit.
And here we are cheering on Laura Ingaraham for her journalistic integrity…

I think it’s a little naive to exclude body language when analyzing someone’s language. The latter half of your comment is true though.
- 4 days
The truth, or proven facts, have nothing to do with body language or micro expressions. 2 + 2 = 4 no matter how big your smirk or how questionable your posture is. We all like to think we can read people like Sherlock Holmes or Sigmund Freud but that doesn’t make us right in our assessment.
- Feathercrown@lemmy.worldEnglish4 days
That doesn’t really have anything to do with what I was saying; they were making motions explicitly intended to communicate in concert with their speech.
“look at this out of touch entitled loser”
“guys why are you criticizing this out of touch entitled loser and also I admit your specific criticism is correct”
Being an entitled out of touch loser does not mean that every utterance from his lips is factually incorrect. And it is really fucking stupid to project meaning onto someone you don’t like to turn a factually correct statement into an incorrect one out of your hatred of the person. Especially when we are talking about the head of CMS’s comment on the price of fucking butter like that is even remotely relevant. What is stupid here is that they were even discussing prices in this interview like Oz has anything at all to do with it.
it was
What was
and you admitted it
Admitted what?
Your communication skills need some work. I suspect your reading comprehension needs some work too if you think I “admitted” to something.
If I just need butter in something with a lot of bigger flavors, I’ll use the cheaper stuff. If I’m making a grilled cheese, toast, frying an egg, etc. where I’m gonna taste the butter, I usually use kerrygold. I try to buy it in bulk when it is on sale, though. It is considerably more expensive.

5 daysA stick in a box like that is about a dollar but the box contains 4 sticks, what an idiot.
- 5 days
I mean, he did say a stick of butter is about a buck. A pound (4 sticks) is a little under $4 for me. So yeah, that checks out. Yeah, you almost always have to buy 4 sticks at a time but that also means you don’t have to buy 4x as often (and butter keeps plenty long in the fridge).
I feel dirty for defending Oz, but this is pretty dumb to get worked up over. The dumbest part is using a unit that’s common for use, but not for purchase. Which… Meh.

If we’re going to look at things with a microscope, I didn’t hear “this” stick of butter. I’m sure a box shows up better on camera

No he didn’t. He just said “butter is a dollar”. He never specified “stick”

5 daysHe did but not in the way the other user implies. The video in the article shows him pointing to the unopened box/pound and saying “this stick”.
Not watching the video right now, but the quote in the article is
“Stick of butter, bag of peanuts. Butter in America, it’s about a buck [for] a stick like this.”

…no? He said “stick of butter, bag of peanuts. Butter is about a buck” and then Laura said something
- eurodyne@piefed.worldEnglish5 days
Except butter is for box because you don’t buy just a single stick. He said “stick of butter in a bag of peanuts”, which isn’t a adult.
Now you’re just cherry picking, because you refused to admit you’re wrong, and I don’t have time to waste on people like you.

i’ve got one pound left in the freezer of what i got the last time it was ‘on sale’ for 99c/lb–almost two years ago, i think… it had been a very long time since it was that low, and i stocked up a lil bit. this is the midwest, where there’s lots of cows. low dairy prices used to be quite common.

I just made butter at home from heavy whipping cream. It’s so easy and cheap, I’m never buying butter again.
Is the quantity of heavy whipping cream to make a stick of butter less expensive than buying the butter itself? I’m intrigued now and might try this myself. Does it spoil faster or anything?
If you are buying premium butter and you use the byproduct (buttermilk) then it may be close to break even. But yes it does spoil faster
- 5 days
$6 of heavy whipping cream makes about $8-$12 of butter depending on if you’re buying cheap butter or expensive butter.
You also end up with a lot of buttermilk which I hate buying because I never use it all.
DIY Butter doesn’t spoil any faster and can be frozen.
It also just tastes a lot better.
Thank you so much. You’ve inspired me - I’m going to give it a try this weekend. I already make my own bread, so this will be a fun addition.

I used a whipping attachment on my food processor. I haven’t tried more manual methods since I’m lazy.

5 daysWhat Is Irish Soda Bread?
Irish soda bread is a type of quick bread that relies on baking soda, not yeast, to rise. The bread contains buttermilk, which contains lactic acid. The acid reacts with the baking soda to create air bubbles, resulting in a perfectly risen dough.
Soda bread became incredibly common during the Irish Potato Famine, as you can make it with only four ingredients: flour, salt, an acid, and baking soda.
TIL, thanks
That estimate seems a bit high TBH. A quart of heavy cream will net you less than a pound of butter on average.

He held out a pack of butter. Then said a stick like this. So he was being dishonest or stupid. But he indicated the thing he was holding was a dollar. What you just linked was $3.
