I generally try not to yuck anyone’s yum, I won’t make fun but I will just straight up say I don’t believe in anything spiritual or magical.

I have a female friend who is an Astronomer. I always call her Astrologer, especially at parties and such.
- 7 hours
Better astrology than witchcraft. I have been through both in my younger days. I do have to admit, the witch was far more fun in bed.
- 6 hours
Or you can just have a decent personality. I’ve never had a problem with both not believing in their astrology and getting laid. Just don’t be a dick about it and talk about something else.
- 7 hours
This is why I shittest every straight man by asking about astrology, y’know, to confirm he’s a liar.

What’s sadder is that yoga, chakras, and crystals are traditionally from religions within the Indian subcontinent. Westerners are simply taking aspects of South Asian cultures, indigenous cultures, African cultures, and then bastardising them into marketable “neo-pagan witchcraft.”
- 6 hours
Not the people, industries do that.
People are very good at adopting whatever and thats mostly fine. Nobody is forced to partake in the corporate stuff. I also think its a bit unfair to westerners, we would like some culture too and we would not like to be restrained to christianity or the celtic stuff (that i personally like) but is very popular with nazis as well. In general living in the middle of europe everything native to my culture always feels a bit right wingey which many obviously dislike.
Being part of a foreign religion doesn’t make it non bullshitty though. I will not just shit on any religion that i didn’t grow up with but you can’t argue that there aren’t people everywhere commercializing and using religion in their own interest.

Turns out the modern world doesn’t have much reverence for the sacred.

7 hoursI’ve been at some concerts where I’ve seen people holding up crystals saying that they are absorbing energy. Seems like harmless fun to me. They aren’t out there killing people over it like religious people sometimes do.

“I use this crystal to absorb the aura of my enemies. Can’t you feel the wrath of a hundred mangled souls in it?”

Mocking believes of others and surprised that other don’t want to be nearby. If you thin you have to disrespect everything your disbelieve, you are not that rational thinking person you think you are
- 6 hours
Its really not that easy.
Don’t be a dick and let others be their kind of weird is in general good advice but you can make fun of someone without being a dick and “their kind of weird” might turn into something harmful.
It might be okay, not okay or there might even be a need to ridicule certain ideas depending on the situation.
If don’t think it is reasonable to expect the public to entertain any ridiculous idea at all times, if you want to voice your believes/opinions you will have to let others do the same and they might not be nice about it. But lets be honest here a lot of “believes” aren’t that nice themselves so…
- 6 hours
A harmful ideology is not the same, and nothing close of what we are talking about.
Everyone have stupid believes, but not everyone is mocked. You cannot expect others to change their mind if you do not try yourself to consider what need is fulfill by this believe. As pointed in another comment, astrology is a way to make emotional connection with others. But one may have other reason we could not discover if we do no take their need and point of view seriously.
This is a critical approach, and how we made science. Disdain produce ignorance and social domination.
And even if one refuse to get medical assistance because of this believe (which is not in the core believe of astrology), you have more chance to convince that person after that honest investigation.

I’m straight, been married 32 years, and my wife hates astrology. There’s no dilemma.
- 18 hours
Damn. I dislike astrology… And I’m a Leo lol. Did you see this in the stars? Is mercury in Gatorade?
- 13 hours
I did see a Gatorade recall today so there very well could be mercury in Gatorade
Mercury is in retrograde, Mars and Saturn coloring apparently was not screened for… So they got flagged

7 hourseven if i were male and straight, I don’t think i could ever respect astrology…
but moreover, it’s creepy as fuck for someone to pretend a change in their beliefs just for sex. that’s kinda literally false pretense for sex. i know I’d never convince a jury of it, but as far as I’m concerned in my personal life, imagining doing such a thing fills me with revulsion and it crosses the line into sexual assault territory.
The difference is most of them don’t believe in any of it. It’s just entertaining to them. Find ten people who say like astrology and ask them to make base a life deciding event on it all 10 of them will make the decision on factors outside of astrology.
An easy way to tell, if they ask what month you were born in, they don’t believe in astrology… As the months don’t line up with the stars.
- 2 hours
And then you have people like my own mom who judges, and forms whole opinions about, people based on their astrology signs.
Even if some sort of behaviour completely contradicts their supposed astral sign, she’ll make it fit.

according to some folks, taking responsibility for your behavior is a shitty thing to do.
- TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.worldEnglish1 day
yeah but you get laid more if you agree to blame nebulous abstract concepts for personal and social grievances.
or blame their parents… that always works too.

LGBT+ folks believe in astrology at the same rate as straight women.
- 13 hours
Not all women are into astrology, but all the people who are into astrology are women.
Actually, they’re a very specific and weird subset of women. They almost always have these traits:
- In their late teens to early/mid 20s
- Into “witchcraft” unironically
- Too into celebrity gossip
- Think yoga and meditation is sacred
- Have a completely delusional and out of touch view of Buddhism and Hinduism
- Have at least one of the following: Comically proportioned glasses, excessive piercings, unnatural hair colors, “spiritual” tattoos
- Think they’re an “artist” of sorts
I’ve yet to meet an astrology fan who didn’t have at least 80% of these.

Jokes aside, you’d be amazed at just how wide the astrology demographic is.

Your unscientific categorization of women archetypes is hilariously closer to astrology than you realize.

The one I dated was in her early 20’s,
Was not into witchcraft or celebrity gossip.
Didn’t do yoga or meditate.
Couldn’t have told you the first thing about Buddhism or Hinduism.
Wore regular glasses
No piercings or tattoos or funny colored hair.
She is an artist with real talent. Her skills with an airbrush are still amazing. But she’s more into designing and making jewelry these days. To be fair, we did need to have a discussion about painting the basement door a purple color with white and yellow flowers one time.
46 years later, she no longer reads the astrology column in the news paper
Cares even less about witches or celebrates
Still no yoga or meditation
Still wears regular glasses
No piercings of tattoos. She doesn’t even dye her to cover the gray anymore.
Still clueless about Far East religions
But, her artistic talents are still on display. Though I wish she would pick up her sketch pad and air brush more these days. I miss her cuddled up next to me on the couch on a cold winter’s night and quietly sketching away while I watch. And her artistic skills live on through our Daughters.
