Rapper Macklemore is a vocal supporter of Palestine and Gaza residents. During a recent concert at MetLife Stadium, he yelled “Free Palestine!” onstage, projected images of devastation in the area, and performed protest song “Hind’s Hall.”
Now, it seems that American venues are not willing to play ball with the Seattle artist, and he has been dropped from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour.
“After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates,” according to Messina Touring Group, the promoter of Loop Tour. This news follows backlash from organizations like StopAntisemitism and others, such as pop star Pink.

Fuck Ed Sheeran and his promoters, got it. I feel it’s important that we acknowledge that the focus should be on Sheeran and his team for their cowardice in this situation, and not focus too heavily on Macklemore. What he did is the bare minimum we should expect from those in the spotlight. Being against a genocide should be so fucking basic it isn’t news, and being in support of a genocide should be so disgusting that it ruins a person’s entire reputation.

because Macklemore isn’t being genocided, Palestinians are. And unless his words help move us toward stopping that, then they are masturbatory. Celebrities speaking in support of Palestine has done nothing more than spread awareness, and we are way beyond that. Anyone unaware at this point is apathetic and unreachable. What could very possibly make a difference would be fucking with Ed Sheeran’s money by shaming MFers for supporting him. I don’t care about a white rapper getting kudos for literally doing the bare minimum of being against genocide, and neither should you.

Thanks for enlightening me with the photo.
So I still believe you can support human rights and not be an antisemite and be critical of human rights abuses of Gazans, but this is the sort of joke an antisemite might make. The again, he apologized.
I really believe people should be able to accidentally make mistakes and fuck up and not get cancelled. But this does put a slightly different spin on things where I can understand why people would question things. Because it’s more than just a mild costume, it’s reminiscent of historical Nazi depictions of Jewish people.
He may have just genuinely fucked up and not realized how disrespectful that was… or maybe he is an antisemite. But it’s sort of like the Musk Hitler salute and “how could you not know what that means or how people would react?” I think Makelmore is probably a decent person based on his history and probably just massively fucked up, but I could be wrong on that, and I really wish I didn’t have to wonder.
I still think Gazans are being treated horribly and human rights violations are occurring and people shouldn’t be penalized for wanting human rights standards.
I fully agree with all of the above regarding support for human rights and the treatment of Gazans, but for me this costume + “from the river to the sea” (meaning ethnic cleansing of Israelis) are clear tells. Even if he isn’t an antisemite or he isn’t anymore, he should’ve been a smarter. Would we show the same understanding to a public figure who openly used the N-word toward someone unironically?
I understand why Ed Sheeran would drop him and I don’t think it should be particularly controversial.

Does “from the river to the sea” mean ethnic cleansing of Israelis? I didn’t know that.
My limited knowledge of the situation is Jewish people left the area due to conflict, thousands of years passed, the Holocaust happened, British somehow “negotiated” their return (under threat of violence to the then-local population) and displaced Palestinians but Palestinians had some land, it just wasn’t as much, Jewish people were attacked and then retaliated by taking more land in the 7 days war, some Palestinians were mad at Israel and tried to attack Israel with rockets and other attacks, Israel then put tremendous and horrible restrictions on all Palestinians that were unreasonable and terrible and it just existed like that (and this part of the situation I believe is greatly understated as being a main cause of this situation), Palestinians elected Hamas that wanted to kill all Jewish people, Hamas killed and kidnapped a bunch of Jewish teenagers at a rave, many of whom were having fun and probably on ecstasy when the attack happened which in some ways is more horrifying, and then also killed a bunch of Israelis in settlements, including babies, then Israel retaliated against Hamas by in theory targeting specific Hamas members but also committing a huge massive number of war crimes, many of which were documented on TikTok, and then TikTok was bought out to try to hide the war crimes and Jewish allies tried to do things like dismantle or weaken the International Criminal Court, then people who were against war crimes were fired from work and penalized for speaking out, which looked really bad for Jewish people, even Jewish people who weren’t a part of the situation.
I knew Hamas wanted to kill all Jewish people. I just didn’t know that slogan means ethnic cleansing of Jewish people. It’s hard to think in those terms when most of the dead people are Palestinians, many of whom likely weren’t political, but does it mean that? Because I’ve heard a lot of liberal and leftist types repeat that; is it actually a call for Jewish ethnic cleansing?, because that is quite scary.
This may be a post that primarily just illustrates my ignorance of geography. What river? What sea? Perhaps it seems innocuous because I don’t understand International geographical stuff, sort of like how some people from the US say Europe is a county they never want to visit. It’s interesting to me because I’m somewhat ignorant, but so are lots of people. Do most people view that slogan as a call for ethnic cleansing?

The river is the Jordan, the sea is the Mediterranean. The area in between is Palestine + Israel. If you say “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” it sounds to me like there’s no space for Israel or Israelis.
Just the same as saying that the whole area should be Israeli.

But first the Kraft group, it’s easy to shift the anger to Ed, but you can’t force anyone to pick a side when they don’t want to get involved, He was planning his tour with cool musicians, hoping to maximize his target audience.
It shouldn’t be the case, but taking a stand in the US now makes you lose half of your pie, He invited Maclemore and was able to perform in a couple of show and now people talking about this might increase the numbers of people talking about Palestine.
The Kraft group was the one requesting for Maclemore to be excluded from the tour, and they should be answering those ‘Fuck you’
