I get that, but those farms are facing bankruptcy at this point. And they were shooting people in the streets. If that’s not enough, maybe we do need some walls, in Minnesota.

How is Minnesota not at the top of that list?
Crimes of ICE@lemmy.4d2.org•A 911 call from Salem, OR, describes a disturbing encounter in which a woman was screaming that she was a U.S. citizen as ICE goons broke her vehicle window and forcibly pulled her out.bySkyrmir@lemmy.worldEnglish
2 daysFolks, if you need to call 911 in Oregon, it’s already too late. You need to prepare yourself to hold off whatever problem they might solve for you for at least 30 minutes.
Honestly people should just plan to not have 911 available in the US. Unless you need, and are ready to pay for, a helicopter. You’re probably better off without calling them.

This is why you should be thinking of words that rhyme with the names of people nearby while having conversations.
No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Realistically, what do people plan to do on the Moon and Mars that requires a permanent, or long term human presence there?bySkyrmir@lemmy.worldEnglish
12 daysIt doesn’t have to be more rare than Earth metals, supply just has to be more limited than demand. Given the rising use cases, and the global population, it’s only a question of time until economic viability. Especially in cases, like now, where supply is constrained by political tensions. It becomes a national security issue to not have a sovereign supply. Lunar mining is cheaper than a resource war.

12 daysThe Moon is a staging area and supply of resources. Lunar launch costs are almost negligible to Earth, so large scale mining of rare earths, deuterium, and other metals is viable. And the low gravity means building/launching giant ships capable of reaching the outer solar system is possible.
The research and knowledge gained from a lunar base would almost certainly far exceed the cost of building it as well. Science and practices in medical and botanical fields that would be directly applicable here on Earth, but are not possible or would not be studied without the existence of a lunar base.
If you’re looking at future opportunity, figure out how to make a cheap and effective heat shield out of lunar regolith in a vacuum. The major cost of returning materials to Earth is the return vehicle. Having to send parts from Earth very quickly makes everything unprofitable.

Honestly you have to consider if it’s safe to move the person in the US. If it is, driving them yourself is probably faster. Any ambulance will have to get to you, before it can get you to a hospital. The advantage EMTs have is that they have the tools and equipment to stabilize a patient for transport. So it’s a case by case kind of situation.
