My grandma repeatedly told us that their house was expensive because the interest rate was 10 3/4%. We have tax benefits based on the interest rate you pay. Also, their monthly payments were, adjusted by inflation, still way lower than what I pay for a worse house.
Hell, the house my dad got when he was a train driver with a wife that didn’t work and with 2 kids is a house I can’t buy as a senior software developer with 3 cats.
