- CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.orgEnglish4 days
Ancaps, in AfD? Do you have a source on that one?
Free trade, and everyone minding their own business, is more what the FDP is about. And pretty far away from closed borders and racial purity.

She doesn’t really read like a fan of personal autonomy and opponent of all political force, no.

3 daysJust like ancaps are.
Not in favor of any authority except the one they deem not an authority.
If we talk about ancaps idiots on the web the not-authority are Corporations, If we talk about ancaps idiots in politics the not-authority is themselves.

4 daysAfD are fascists and supremacists. They just pool together with others in similar circles.
- geissi@feddit.orgEnglish3 days
There is an internal conflict between the foreign assets and the hardcore nationalists within the AfD, though they’ve managed to mostly keep it down in recent years.
- susieq0044@sh.itjust.worksEnglish5 days
Before every Great War, some countrymen thought it would be a good idea to cuddle up to the enemy. They were always wrong.
- LewdLemon@sh.itjust.worksEnglish5 days
AfD may be cosplaying “countrymen” and “nationalists”, but large parts are just Russian assets. They don’t think; they just cash in, all the while decrying that the “corrupt elites” are betraying the interests of the country. It’s mindblowing that people fall for this shit. But they do.
- CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.orgEnglish4 days
The second one, sure. The first one was a whole different dynamic. You didn’t even know which side you would be on, necessarily, until an archduke got shot, secret alliances came out and it started.

5 daysTrump: abandones europe and lies to them AfD: yooo we should get closer with trunp
- CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.orgEnglish4 days
Well, the alternative would be admitting there’s something wrong with the far-right worldview, and attitude, which Trump represents.
Instead, you can just lie about what’s happening in geopolitics, like you lie about the domestic situation. EZ.
- Sina@beehaw.orgEnglish4 days
I would assume that the real alternative would be a right-wing -still bigoted- party that recognizes that Trump is retarded, recognizes that Russia is problematic & alongside all that they can still do the borderline fascist migrant policy & all that jazz. It’s really not that hard, alas they are really a Russian asset, they don’t really have people that actually believe all this crap. Perhaps we are lucky that they are, otherwise they could really sweep the elections like no one else has done in recent years.
- CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.orgEnglish4 days
Maybe? On this side of the Atlantic, toning down their message is the one thing the far-right can’t really do. Even suggesting that, within a party, would just mark you as a traitor.
The demographics of the far-right are pretty different over there, though, and so probably are the dynamics. Although, if you concede one form of nuance, you’re bound to concede more, and at some point you’re just another mainstream party.
- Bob@feddit.orgEnglish4 days
… otherwise they could really sweep the elections…
You think they won’t?
- Sina@beehaw.orgEnglish4 days
It’s very unlikely they’ll get near 50% in the next two cycles. They can become the largest party, but luckily in German politics that’s not enough. Of course it’s still a dangerous situation if another party betrays their voters and allies with them.
CarstenBoll@feddit.dkEnglish
5 daysAnd do their voters support this, or is it more ‘foreigners bad’ and then they don’t think about the rest?
- OnkelDieter@feddit.orgEnglish5 days
As far as i can tell from those of my acquaintances who openly admit to vote vor AfD there is more or less the stance: “Germany first, loose cooperation with the US and Russia but always with the option to play one on the other or stab them in the back if the opportunity arises”… oh and yes: Foreigners bad. Perhaps with some very, very few exceptions like Dubai billionaires or the cliche hard working, diligent Asians…
Sigh…
CarstenBoll@feddit.dkEnglish
5 daysThe thing is, I struggle to see how ANYONE can look at the world today and imagine that a European country will be better off alone without the EU. ‘Foreigner bad’ is at least an undercurrent to all politics everywhere and at all times, and the mechanisms of finding scape goats is well known.
In Denmark, even the most eurosceptic parties have gone silent on the issue after watching Brexit unfold, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the US turning on Denmark and the rest of Europe.
I just can’t see how you can be that politically naive.
- OnkelDieter@feddit.orgEnglish5 days
The thing is - and i have to admit that i sometimes fall myself into that trap - is thinking that maybe, maybe if we go back to the good old days of the 80s, when every country in the European Economic Union had its borders with border controls, had their own sovereign currency and was more or less independent, when the world was way, way smaller, industry more local and other countries where - at least in the mind of the average German - far away, things would be more easy.
But then i open my eyes again and realize… shit ain’t like that! It’s real fucked up!

I feel like Danish politics is somewhat more sane even by far right and far left standards.

You’d really think that with the entire rules-based order of free trade and multilateral agreements at stake, countries would have better foreign-asset antibody mechanisms. You’d want to expect that people would be able to spot obvious lies specifically designed to destroy their countries. You would be wrong.

As long as under-educated people are on the drip feed of oligarch-owned media (be they “social” or not), they’ll run into whichever direction the algorithm or the editors push them.

5 daysI think it’s more like Putin (& Netanyahu) got the receipts (Epstein was selling to whoever was buying), Trump is just one of many puppets. I guess “we’ll cosy up to Trump” is supposed to sound better than “we’ll bend over for Putin”. But it’s the same thing
