Would be 100 right now if she had led out for a few more months.

Ah, gotcha.
So, basically a biometic key, but with a password? Isn’t that basically just a self-signed certificate, then?

No, sorry, I’m a network vegan. I only eat things that are grown at Layer 1. My packets are whole-grain and processed by hand. carried by pigeons. IP by Bird is how I surf the web, dude!

Not CPU costs, processing costs. Password resets are actually quite expensive. Microsoft and Google pushed the FIDO Alliance toward widespread use of a passwordless login credential because it benefited them. Google and MS get tens of millions of password resets a year. So if each one of those cost them $2 (some companies spend as much as $70 on each one if a human is involved), that’s literally tens of millions of dollars saved. Then you say “oh, for security” as the tie-in to not make it about your bottom line.

I wait for something to break. Then I yell “God fucking dammit, I don’t have time for this right now!” and spend an hour triaging things before I just try docker down, pull, up and everything works.

Passkeys are worthless trash, invented explicitly to save Microsoft and Google money on password reset server time.
They do not solve session hijacking. Any attacker that has your granny on the phone to read them her password can also tell granny to go to a link and give them her session cookies.

So…re-using the same password for every service and site?
Grandma, that’s enough internet for today, OK?
Sure, but I might also become a snack.
One of the reasons I would love to travel to the future is to see all the ways that people and science are confidently incorrect about depictions of dinosaurs now, and how they’re depicted like 300 years in the future. Even within my lifetime, we’ve gone from slow, fat lizard turds to something realistic like this lil’ guy. Amazing stuff.
I mean, I don’t jump from trend to trend, so I’ll support Lemmy until either the project gets depreciated and no more updates happen. I can still see everything because piefed is federated, so why jump from platform to platform every few months? What features really are there that make a difference?
I see a lot of piefed posts on Lemmy - are we not federated across so that we’re getting the milk without needing to buy the cow?

Disney employs around 220-000- 230,000 people. So this is maybe 1% of staff, to put that in perspective.
