  • and before you know it, you confuse some loud people disliking your edgy opinions with you and your “facts” being oppressed

I agree with your other points but you’re definitely wrong on this. Facts are definitely oppressed today. Objective, verifiable historical facts are “not allowed” to be mentioned, and it has cost people their job.

And I do believe that is something that we’ve been trained to do now. Mention you just used AI with the wrong people and you’re out. A moral absolutism based on disinformation and refutable arguments. The “MAGAtization” of the left if you will. Or in case of AI it creates a deep moralistic divide with tech nerds.

It could either be accidental (engagement is good for profit) or part of a strategy (divide and conquer). But as a society we’ve lost the ability to even talk about certain very important things without walking on eggshells.

And yeah most of this is speculation.

  • I mean every day you see massive influence campaigns playing out on reddit. Bots are real and completely distort reality and train people to be stupid. Right now everyone is laughing about a search engines web crawler “bots” being taken down, everyone piles on and completely, absolutely completely ignores the reality that the bots on the other side / fronts of the culture wars do more damage. It’s disinfo and scapegoating in one.

So how CAN you have a social media without heavy moderation? Wealth means power. The power to have think tanks design influence campaigns and have PR corporations implement them. Like overwhelming power.

But we don’t talk about it. Lemmy users are just as stupid, already trained like good dogs to fall in line and no better than reddit. Lemmy as a replacement to reddit has indeed already failed. But theoretically you want moderation, want to regulate that social media has to employ “more than enough” moderators to prevent bots and campaigns influencing our social media. Because that is how we lost our pluralistic western democracies.

So not that it matters now and maybe I misunderstood you. But “free” is just another word for “controlled by those with the most wealth”.

  • I mean even if it did train on the proprietary code it can’t memorize it. It has to “learn what code like this looks like”. It has to figure out what the function is. That can I think only be called verbal intelligence. The ability to understand what is meant behind words. Not very good yet but having to pretend it’s not there is just denialism. Denialism exactly like climate change denial. And of course some AI fans do have AI psychosis, different side of the same coin.

The whole dancing around LLMs clearly being able to reason (which can be shown in scientific experiments) and therefor clearly having some sort intelligence is so stupid. Because meanwhile 90% of lemmy users are too brainwashed to accept basic reality any more.

Because you know, this isn’t just funny. There are real danger as the technology progresses. But it’s politically incorrect and gets you massive downvotes in the wrong community if you talk about those dangers. You can’t talk about facts any more.

It’s not just about the historical facts about e.g. the coup in Ukraine that you can’t talk objectively about any more. Facts in general become anathema. Only the feeling of correctness and manufacturing social consent matters. Collectively we are becoming more and more stupid animals. We are trained to become less sentient or sapient. Less able to perceive and react to reality and more and more act on trained and instinctual impulses. But I see little difference between the MAGA fascists and like 90% of lemmy users now. And if you don’t want to offend (or get fired) you have to mask and that seemed funny in your post.

    Anyway, sorry just rambling lol

  • There was recently a discussion about this from someone who crossposts stuff from reddit to lemmy and got banned for it. Opinions vary but it’s mostly anti reddit. Can’t find it now though. Myself I’m not sure. Importing trends and “reinforcement learning” or manufacturing cons(t)ent from reddit is problematic. But it’s not like most lemmies aren’t already trained like good little dogs to be neoliberal imperialists. I mostly see the same shite trending on lemmy as on reddit.

It definitely is hilarious that the top post on lemmy currently has double banned tags lol

  • So you can understand me as talking about classical liberalism or what you would call neoliberalism. But MOST people on the “left” are fine with many aspects of capitalism, including the moral belief in inequality based on class / wealth. If I make more money, I deserve better healthcare, my kids better food and education. Most “leftists” are closer to classic liberals than socialists (I think).

The other view on this is that “liberal values” or “the liberal international order” means that there ARE no ideological values that are inherently better or worse. It’s all just a question of voting for them or not. A personal choice. Except it’s not.

First people do no or can not accept how much of mass opinion is manufactured (e.g. “manufacturing consent” is in hyperdrive today). If you invest in private media and PR campaigns and fund the right groups you can completely manipulate and interfere in the affairs of other countries. This is the playbook for the color revolutions, what is done today overtly by the NED which used to be done covertly by the CIA. It’s the same thing though.

Second is that because there is no “definite ideology of the state” except “anything goes and greed is good” (e.g. commercial property enshrined in fundamental law) there is no counterweight. This does not have to be spelled out, it is an inevitable outcome of the starting conditions. The power to influence ideology does not rest with the state and it does not rest with the people: It rests with those who have the most power outside of the state.. Those who have the most money and influence. The plutocrats and institutions and corporations. THEY are what have power in a “liberal democracy”. Because there is nothing to oppose these powers because the state is liberal, permissive of all ideology. What remains is powers like Koch brothers, Musks, Murdochs, Think Tanks, bla bla institutes, churches. In a bygone era there used to be unions, but even in social democratic countries they are at least partially captured.

So the idea of “liberal values” as being different from classic or neoliberalism is shaky at best. It’s one of the “big lies” of western democracies. There is only power (Sith axiom). And all political power derives from economic power (homebrew axiom / headcanon)

Or maybe like this: If you could run a computer simulation of a western liberal democratic country based on initial law and wealth and power distribution, you would always get capitalism.

At least this is my latest hypothesis to explain the complete collapse of the pluralistic western civilization.

  • Something that is against international law.

The point is that this is a double standard. It’s hypocritical misdirection. Hiding the actual causes for the shit we’re in. It’s neoliberal and US empire propaganda.

The more complex point would be that our social media networks are unmoderated spaces owned and operated for profit and political power. It should be independent, meaning the workers and users have some democratic input on how it operates and how well it is moderated. This is the root cause - you cannot operate a system on “greed is good and nothing else is allowed” and expect good outcomes. You cannot. It’s a lie. It makes assholes out of all of us. A whole generation of people has been trained like dogs from social media that is why even in moderated space like lemmy you see this bullshit. Everyone fucking clapping like seals: “Yes Russia bad! Kill Russia and everything will be good again! Just one more coup in South or Central America!”

    Against international law lol. Despicable.

  • There are studies and tools like LiCoEval and others that investigate LLM memorization. It does happen but it’s not all the time, and it’s very infrequent for real world (complex) examples. Mostly this concerns textbook examples or standard boilerplate code - from what I read. And I obviously don’t know the specific example mentioned. This is also a problem that can be fixed.

But I’m really just half mocking the very careful language used by the comment I replied to.

  • Please stop with the acts of war or terrorism BS. The article also mentions “in-store pricing powered by electronic shelf labels” so lets not ignore this is about multi-billion companies trying to suck every penny out of our pocket. If these companies design and manufacture and buy stupid hardware that is susceptible to such hacking, they really deserve it. I mean they really do.

Second, this is a good thing. Systems will be hardened now. You think there would be any other fucking way they would upgrade their security unless something like this happens? Beatings will continue until security improves. This is why even chaotic hackers that cause damage and inconvenience are ultimately a positive force on our IT infrastructure. Think of it as an ecosystem and evolutionary pressure. Free marketplace of security models.

  • Oh it learned enough from code that it has developed some basic, and hear me out of this, artificial verbal intelligence. I know I know, not just pattern matching, but actual artificial intelligence at a low level.

Please don’t downvote me (sorry don’t remember if this is fuckai or not) but I’m just saying it’s one possible explanation to this phenomenon you describe.

  • I asked deepseek to make me some funny variation of this template but from a neoliberal perspective, but it was far less funny than I hoped it would be. I mean it was just fucking CNN.

    Dear <vaguely defined political opponent>, if <absurd strawman> then why don’t you <ridiculous demand>
