I know, I regularly find myself thinking the same thing. :( I hate it so much… especially for cute/funny animal pictures. Ugh.
As for this image, I did a reverse image search via TinEye, and the earliest it found it was in an Imgur post in January 2019. I don’t think the tools were available and good enough at that time, so I think it’s not generative AI slop, but someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

Back in the day you’d just assume it was Photoshop. At least then someone would have put some effort in
