Capitalism is incompatible with democracy. It’s a form of government- oligarchy. It’s more or less feudalism with extra math, and it’s an active competitor of democracy and rule of law.
- WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.worldEnglish8 days
You’re misunderstanding it bro. The peasants can totally have this sliver of democracy while the entire economic system is made up of thousands of competing oligarchies/plutocracies, allowed to be ruled by kings, with their own private militaries and propaganda operations, and grow wealthier than entire nation states. Nothing sus.

In the US, it’s probably because most of the mainstream media is owned by conservatives.
Examples:
-
Rupert Murdoch owns Fox News, NY Post, and the Wall Street Journal.
-
CNN and CBS News (as weak as a number of other channels) are run by the Ellison family. There has been talk of making them sell CNN to someone else, but it hasn’t happened yet.
-
The Washington Post is owned by Amazon mogul, Jeff Bezos.
-
The Hill and NewsNation are owned by Nextstar (who also own the largest number of broadcast tv stations). Founded and run by Perry Sook.

9 daysWhat’s amusing is that for decades, conservatives have been howling about the “liberal media”.
It was absurd when you had about 3 major corporate networks and a cable station like CNN doing all of the gatekeeping, but maybe a bit of diversity among the various papers - but it was hard to really tell people about the absurdity of that without the internet.
But now it’s absolutely cartoonish to claim there is a “liberal media”. And yet the right still do it.
New York Times is probably one of the last papers with the resources and the tradition of at least doing something akin to reality-based reporting, but they love to play the both-sides game. To the right, though, they represent some far-left fringe, LOL.

conservatives have been howling about the “liberal media”.
That’s because they’re brain dead. “The hat is red, the brain is dead.” And yes, some are malicious little pricks that knowingly spread bullshit for bait, trolling, and likes/subscriptions for their blather factories.

It’s honestly one of the most damaging and insidious things the media has successfully convinced the average American of
The NY Times has been carrying water for the right at the very least since the war in Iraq.
It’s insane how the right has been able to convince people that they’re “far left.”
The Overton Window in the US is so unbelievably far to the right.

The House of Mouse isn’t conservative, but it tends to be complicit as fuck. Just go with the flow.

Because the actual House Judiciary Committee report debunks his lies in the middle of an election – and brings the receipts.
There are a lot of people even on Lemmy that are acting bored, “Why is this news?” and the like, but honestly anyone who is interested should read it for themselves: the REAL news is not in the headlines, or even in the articles that follow. The real news is in the redactions that have been uncovered in the report, what they hid, and the ability to view it as a whole instead of the usual media trickle truthing.
Every time someone posts a link, there’s at least one or two people going, “We already knew this!” No. What you knew were the broad strokes. See page 25, for example: everyone knows Katie Johnson sued him for rape and then withdrew her suit, but you missed that Trump and Epstein have been linked to each other by the FBI in the context of child rape for almost twenty years.
If you want the quick overview of what I personally have noticed so far, look at my post history. From the day it came out I have been throwing it out there. But honestly, just skim the report. Or even just the press release, which is a shittily formatted but fairly good synopsis.
And when you do read further, keep in mind that this House report was never intended to be a fully-argued prosecution: rather, it is a specific, and incredibly damning, rebuttal against the current DoJ claims that there is not enough evidence to investigate known facts further. DoJ insists that there is no further evidence, no reason to investigate any further because no investigations = no prosecutions. This report is the Dem answer to that. It lays that purpose out up front, it says that throughout, and it wraps up with that in the end.
For every single person who brays, “No one will investigate!” that’s just a lie. The MAGA Republicans currently in control of the US government refuse to investigate. This report is the Dem answer to that obvious lie. And they bring the proof.
No media article I have seen so far even got that little bit right. By design, I suspect.
That’s what we get for relying on the media. If you want to know why it’s news, read it yourself.
Also, you should know that Trump isn’t alone in this. Vladimir Putin has a known predilection for little boys: that is the suspected reason for the fact that a man fluent in German and rising in KGB ranks never got posted abroad but was kept home, and why his official records are full of strange lacunae. It’s not just Putin’s “statecraft” that makes Trump love him like a daddy. Let’s talk about that too.

I agree with you, but I try not to be like this.
And that’s because me being blasé or nonchalant about it all is exactly what the fat orange child rapist wants.
That disgusting human shaped thing knows everyone knows about the rapes of children and women but can not change that, however what can be changed is our tiredness and ‘acceptance’ of it all.So now when I’m in the ‘hmmm, I know he’s a paedo’ mode I change it to ‘THAT FAT CUNT IS A FUCKING PAEDO. DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH!’ mode.
- 9 days
You’re right, but I guess I am always in the ‘THAT FAT CUNT IS A FUCKING PAEDO. DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH!’ mode, but that doesn’t mean that him being fat, a cunt or a PAEDO is news worthy for me.
For me, I want to see him on death row, and I want the names of all those who are on his team, then the names of all those who support his ideologies, then the names of those who need re-education. That’s the news I want.
I won’t click on anything that says “yet another person accuses orange cunt man of rape”. I’ve heard enough evidence, I want action now

“Flood the zone” is quite literally the most effective political strategy in the past 100 years.
None of the new allegations are surprising at all. Anyone with two eyes who saw that video of Trump and Epstein at that party knows exactly what was happening.
But let’s be real…what batshit crazy news could come out tomorrow that would really shock you? Right now, a few days before election day, we’re all expecting what, troops at the polls? Martial law? Another Jan. 6? Do you really think the Trump ballroom or The Kennedy Center are real issues, or were they just looking for crazy shit to distract everyone? Lake America? Gulf of America?
Every day it’s just more on top of more. New Epstein allegations are just noise on top of the already existing noise at this point.
I don’t know how we can go back from this after how well “flood the zone” worked…
It’s truly a puzzler. Almost like the media is bought and sold by the rich. But that can’t be it. Right? Right?!

Legacy media loves Trump. They created him and they will never betray him. Legacy media are all nazi cockroaches who should be treated as such.
Support independent media.
Because some of those who work forces, work in news offices.
Because none of the allegations in that new Democratic Report are new. They are ALL details that have been publicly available for years. All this report did was filter out some of Trump’s most damning accusations, and organized them in a report.
What this really does is send a pre-Midterm Election threat, that investigations are coming. This is the start.

Are they coming? Or will the Dems just sit on it like they did during the Biden years? Seems more likely that the Dems will continue to serve the oligarchs, like they usually do.
