Data centers not owned by the Russian state will have 24 hours to provide access to 10% of their capacity if they are called upon.

Excellent way to get the datacenters onto a valid military target list. Good job, Putin!

I’m really curious how the Russian middle class - the “too rich and influential to go to war, but not rich or influential enough to be a self sustaining oligarch” class - will react to when their Yandex smart home or AI, VK, etc. becomes unusable because Putin demands all data centers to provide capacity to the military… Will there be another round of those sob videos like when they did the whole “those evil Ukrainians blew up our warehouses and ruined our businesses/lives when we didn’t even do anything to them” spiel?

Sounds like you already know how those sobs will respond. Pun intended.

Out of curiosity, how do you envision the Internet existing without data centers? Everyone hosts their own servers at home?
UiUiUiUiUi@piefed.nlEnglish
4 daysYes, but first devs need to build with that in mind;
- Mastodon vs gotosocial
- nextcloud vs copyparty/syncthing + radicale
- graphana + prometheus vs bezsel
Going beyond framework/language/setup the coming of mastodon relays are a direct result of enough people hosting gotosocial themselves (equity vs equality).
Yes power law will continue to exist but we can make less of the pie dependent on datacenters.

Honestly man, you guys act way more like predictive text models than anyone you accuse. Even this reply is so cringe-inducingly automatic and vapid, just empty signaling that you are Against the Enemy. Like an 11 year old trying to fit in with adults by mirroring their prejudices.

It’s been wild watching the last ten years of mass psychosis over Russian hacking/bots. Prigozhin made a facebook group that got 500 likes in 2016 and that’s somehow justified years of relentless headlines that have turned the majority of liberals into BlueAnon cultists. And of course the only objective studies that can be found show the dynamic is inverted from the propaganda’s portrayal.

4 daysmoth also believes the Russian government does not have propaganda bot farms. this is western Fake News Media NATO propaganda, vs our glorious Soviet truth, comrade.

I dont think they’re a tankie, speaking as a tankie myself. The bar for being a tankie is higher than just stating facts, you also need ideological alignment with the working class’ cause and abandon the naive notion that peaceful means bring actual change

While everyone I disagree with is also a boogeyman run by foreigners, one perhaps might stretch so far as to concede that state governments often have legitimate need of computers

Yes, yesss, hobble your tech edge and assume it won’t have volatile consequences. Genius. I’m all for it, Pooty. 🤌🏼
