It may be bad. But being accepted by the mainstream shouldn’t be what drives someone to make art, only getting the story out there to be seen however it falls.
Any time reviewers are mentioned, I always remember how the local newspaper gave a terrible review for Star Wars when it came out, saying it was a pointless film and wouldn’t do well.

Tbf, I have to turn off every critical part of my mind to enjoy Star Wars.
It’s a lot of fun vibes but so often I’m screaming “why tf?!”

I hadn’t heard of this movie, but being a sucker for Jenna Ortega had me hooked and the plot sealed it. Will have to watch at some point

I felt the book was boring as fuck. Too slow for my taste. Too “summer afternoon”.
But yeah, there are reasons… to watch the movie.

Yes, he is, because generalizing modern criticism is stupid and out of touch and directors getting mad at a poor reception and calling every critic “out of touch” has been the go to move since 1950.
You haven’t read a critic in 15 years? Anyone reading the comment section has read a movie critic. Everyone with a pop culture podcaster they listen to has a critic in their ear. Maybe he should be listening to the professionals too because he hasn’t made something good since JoJo in the first place.
The reality is he’s not dealing well with not being those critics’ quirky darling and he’s lashing out.
Shit, you dumb old bastard, do you think the same thing about the critics who liked it? Or are the only good critics the ones who like everything you do?

I was looking forward to it, and I’m still looking forward to it despite the shit reviews. Those numbers mean very little to me.
I like his work and that’s why I’ll watch this.

“Next Goal Wins” was panned but I liked it. He has a sensibility and it works for me. I’ll watch anything he makes.
