• Non binary god? Does this mean the texas Jesus folk believe in a binary, gender fluid god?

      • The reference is to a speech given by Talarico where he explains he believes god is nonbinary (his words). The republicans made sure everyone in Texas heard that and if they know a single thing about Talarico, it’s that the guy said god is nonbinary and there are six biological sexes (he also did say that).
Because the republicans’ candidate, Paxton, is a corrupt mess impeached by his own party, they really need their voters be scared of heretic Talarico.

        • Man, I remember reading about some culture that actually had five formal gender structures and thinking, “That makes so much sense. Why can’t we do that?” Anthropology not politics. Wish I’d bookmarked it, although said culture was probably brown people and therefore unrecognizable to the people who most need to see it.

        • If you want to get nitpicky about biological sex, there definitely aren’t only two. On top of XXY and X0, you have things like androgen insensitivity syndrome where someone is born with a typical vulva and vagina, but has XY chromosomes and a body unable to respond to testosterone. The SRY gene is what’s responsible for the formation of testicles and a penis, not the Y gene, so you can also have people who are XX with a typical penis and testicles who can father children. And arguing that someone assigned male at birth who can father children is actually biologically female because of their chromosomes would be losing the plot.

          • Yes I do want to get nitpicky about it. My understanding is; mammals start out on a default developmental program that leads to what one would call feminine traits. In the presence of testosterone hormones and receptors, parts of that developmental program are masculinized. That’s a graded process in which things can go in unusual ways. Still, the number of sexes, if we want to put a number on it, is 2, with some caveats.
If you want to make a case why is it not 2 but 1, 3, 4, 5, or 6, please do go ahead, I would genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Just please don’t let your answer be “it’s not 2, it’s more complex than that.” Pick a number.

            • ‘If you rule out all the exceptions it’s actually only two’ isn’t impressive to me, sorry. I even gave you an example that isn’t ‘female by default’ with the SRY gene.

And no, I won’t pick a number. I’m not a geneticist (and I highly doubt you are either), I don’t know every possible chromosome and sex organ configuration (and neither do you). You justify why there are only two sexes when I’ve given you all these examples that clearly aren’t XX and XY.

              • I’ll put this differently so maybe my position comes through more clearly.

There are two biological sexes, and not everyone fits neatly into either. If you’re trying to make more categories, each will have a ton of exceptions and you will never have enough categories to cover the case of every human who ever lived or will live.

Analogy: there’s an island where there are 2 cities. There’s also a hermit living in a trailer up the hills, an airline pilot who travels much for work and occasional stays in one or the other city, and a cowboy who is on the run from the authorities so he never enters a city and camps in the wilderness instead. On this island, there are 2 cities and 3 people who don’t live in either. It would be absurd to say that there are 5 cities on this island.

              • But why is it more useful to call every imaginable developmental anomaly a separate sex? If we do that, does sex even mean anything? Definitions are as good as useful the resulting categories are. If you can’t even begin listing the biological sexes that you think we have to consider, what on earth will anyone ever be able to use those categories for? Yes, saying there are males and females is useful categorization of not just humans but many animals, because it captures a pretty significant dimension of individual variability arising from separate developmental programs. The existence of exceptions doesn’t render it useless, you can say “I have male chromosomes but my body developed like a female would “ without requiring a biological sex category covering your specific case.

Edit: btw this is not the area of genetics and Y is a chromosome not a gene.

                • Why is it useful to pretend these people and sex configurations don’t exist and aren’t part of the full spectrum of humanity? Why does sex only ‘mean anything’ if it’s two sexes only?

You don’t have to talk about every single sex any time you’re discussing anything sex related, in probably most instances that’s not relevant. But it’s denial to act like they don’t exist or “count” because it makes thing’s more complicated. That’s intellectual cowardice.

                  Re your edit:

btw this is not the area of genetics and Y is a chromosome not a gene.

You think biological sex isn’t an area of genetics? Sibling, what??

Also, the SRY gene is not the Y chromosome: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex-determining_region_Y_protein

      • The ad is pretty explicit about that. If god now has a binary gender, then if Talarico is elected, God will be non-binary for 6 years.

Talarico is so powerful that only electing him to be a senator seems like a big step down for him.

    • Isn’t the argument that god looks like a dude wearing an open robe and you can see his thick, veiny god-dong when he sits down casually?

If god doesn’t have a thick, drippin’ hog, what even is Christianity?

      • I think I remember only one man (Job maybe) every was allowed to look on god a he could only see his back. That’s probably because god lost the belt to his robe somewhere and knew that seeing the deitic phallus would just be too much for mortal man to handle.

i dont know about you all but i cant stop thinking about gods massive member

Jesus identifies as man, but being a virgin birth, he cannot have the Y chromosome…

    • Technically… isn’t god non-binary anyway lol. It’s supposed to be a being with no human attributes, no gender etc

    • Me thought their god was terniary (being a trinity and all) but turns out that is in base-2. Maybe if Talarico wins god will become something interesting like base-20.

    • What’s really depressing to me is that the money that could be going to universal health care or better infrastructure is, instead, being handed out to billionaires sending AI slop mailers.

  • okay yeah, surface level my reaction is “stop, I can only get so erect.”

but looking just one level down, this is god damn terrifying. they are so brainwashed against Bernie “wants you to have healthcare”, Alexandria “let’s just make some sane decisions”, and Zohran “everything I do is good for the people but I have a scary Muslim name” that they’re perceived as putting the literal devil image on a mailer.

that’s horrifying, man. these are good people that have never raped children (yes, yes, as far as we know). how do these people think they’re villains?

    • Zohran has a YouTube. There was a mock vid on his “scary” smile because his opponents had nothing else to point fingers at.

    • These pedo apologists would be in big trouble if someone with common sense came in and did anything real for the people.

  • So they can’t come up with anything actually bad about him. Got it.

    Paxton is a criminal.

  • I’m already sold on the guy, geez

(if only he was actually this cool)

  • Funny how they have to rely so heavily on appealing to peoples hate and xenophobia on account of their platform doesn’t actually aim to achieve anything of substance for normal people.

  • I wish the absolute worst for the people that buy into this hatred. Cancer for the lot of them. Cut off their care after they can no longer afford it because they cannot work anymore. Mean spirited? Yup. Fuck ‘em.

I’m not an American but this TalaFREAKo seems pretty cool. Even their name is awesome.

  • Nonbinary God?

But if humans have two genders, and we’re all made in God’s image, wouldn’t God have to be nonbinary? Or hermaphroditic at least?

    • MAN was made in God’s image. MAN. Women are just weird freaks made out of a rib, obviously. A MAN’S rib.

      The Bible is fucking weird.

    • No, no. See, God is definitely a dude.

He’s so manly and not gay that He even made Adam a wife just so he wouldn’t have to resort to nonbinary gay stuff with angels.

God has even had sex, like, at least once. How else do you think He got His only begotten son who is also Himself?

In case you didn’t already know, He also doesn’t approve of pronouns.

  • This AD PERFECTLY shows how the Republicans will HELP me Afford Groceries!

    -LITERALLY Republican Voters!

  • The list bulleted in X’s will be confusing to some. X’s usually denote the absence or removal of a thing. I find that funny too

  • Republicans bitch about try to scare their constituents with "trans for everyone while their medical bills get sent to collections.

And their constituents are still fucking dumb enough to vote for them.
