Reminds me of the quote from the antagonist in Far Cry 3.
Doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.
Edit: just in case people think I’m blaming Brazilians. I’m not. Technofascists can eat dirt, but it’s Stockholm syndrome continuing to use their tools for communication.
- Smaile@lemmy.caEnglish8 days
It’s More so not being given an alternative then stalkholm syndrome, btw that is actually a made up term by police.
It was originally use to explain why hostages side with their agressers, making it a psychological problem rather then admitting that the kidnappers might have actually been making good points and the captives actually agreeing with them and cooperateing.
- zoloftt@lemmy.worldEnglish8 days
There are a ton of alternatives. Signal. Lemmy. Bluesky. Mastodon.
Just as examples…
Yes, and I’m not describing an actual human hostage situation so I think the term fits fine.

Brazil should call for the legal execution of the heads of big tech
Artisian@lemmy.worldEnglish
8 daysThis is true, though I’ll note that signal is not oligarchic like meta. It’s a nonprofit, and their ability to do nonsense like this is substantially reduced.

Oh good gravy. At a certain point the victim gets to be blamed for their own problems for the continued support of American tech. This is like trying to excuse the American people for the American government. They voted. They didn’t behead. Tough tits.
- Cethin@lemmy.zipEnglish9 days
If someone is driving drunk and runs into a tree, it’s their fault. I don’t care if they’re the victim. They made shitty choices, and choices that endanger others at that.
No, victim blaming isn’t bad every time.
- athatet@lemmy.zipEnglish9 days
A drunk driver hitting a tree is not a victim. The tree would be the victim in this case.
- NonconfrontationaI@lemmy.mlEnglish8 days
No, you’re responsible for your own actions. The people those actions affect can be victims.
- Auli@lemmy.caEnglish8 days
And people continuing tobenabke America and their oligarchs are not victims and american citizens are not victims.
- athatet@lemmy.zipEnglish8 days
The drunk driver is not a victim. Whatever they crash into is the victim.
- athatet@lemmy.zipEnglish9 days
Great. Go ahead and keep on guessing about things over there. Away from the rest of us.

You have the ability to block me. You choose not to block me. You are not the victim.
- athatet@lemmy.zipEnglish9 days
You would love it if I blocked you. Then I wouldn’t be around to push back on all your stupid ass comments.
I never said I was the victim.

Isn’t most of the 3rd world on WhatsApp?
You use it because the people you want to talk to are on it. Network effect
JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nlEnglish
8 daysMost of the first world too, except like China.
The EU runs on WhatsApp except in some places like sweden where it runs on fucking Facebook messenger apparently 😂
- boonhet@lemmy.zipEnglish8 days
Ah round here it’s messenger and Telegram, didn’t WhatsApp was so popular in the rest of the EU since everyone was already on Facebook like almost 2 decades ago so why even bother with WhatsApp
- melsaskca@lemmy.caEnglish8 days
Nice try Meta. You billionaire tech bros have had your day in the sun and now you’ll truly see the power of the people of the world.
