Being hit by a motor vehicle of some sort owned by a large company with deep pockets and suffering a horrific but ultimately temporary injury with absolutely no longer-term health effects that nonetheless results in a seven figure injury settlement
- scytale@piefed.zipEnglish16 days
Damn, and here I was thinking more like just slipping on a puddle in a store.
- chocrates@piefed.worldEnglish16 days
The settlement isn’t gonna be as good if it doesn’t impact your lifetime earnings. I have a family member that litigates this shit 🤮
- 16 days
Yeah but instead of the state paying you, you get to increase a big company’s insurance premiums for a while

Covid time was personally great for me. Vietnam locked things down. We had food delivered. We didn’t get sick. At home with the wife and kid. Watching movies and tv. Playing games. Making the second kid. I worked from home for something like 6 to 9 months because my office is in a neighboring province and VN didn’t allow travel between provinces until a later relaxing of restrictions after vaccines became available.
- 16 days
I loved Covid, like not the disease or people dying. But the rise in WFH. My company finally wants to cease all WFH and it fucking sucks. I’m ready for another pandemic.
I can’t really do offices, I burn out way too fast. It’s not my kind of environment. Covid let me be a functional member of society, it gave me a taste of normalcy. Now all that is being taken away because middle-management needs to justify expensive offices. Offices that also drive up property costs so no one can afford homes.
Yay~!

16 daysI see no evidence they didn’t write it, I have yet to find an older source for the text, but would be interested in seeing it if you find one.
At any rate, this seems to the original uncropped version of the image posted here.

I hate to admit it but I’d love to go back to Covid times where I was forced to stay in my house and never leave. I don’t want people dying but I’m so fucking tired.

16 daysIt wasn’t any different for me. I was one of those so-called “essential workers”. I still had to go to work. When I wasn’t at work, I stayed home and layed in bed and played games. People talked about isolation and loneliness and I was just thinking " First time, is it?".
“it is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism”
- the_artic_one@piefed.socialEnglish16 days
This is the premise of Zom100: Bucket list of the Dead, the main character’s job is so shitty, he considers the zombie apocalypse to be a massive improvement over having to go to work and just starts living his best life and doing all the things he never had time for.
It’s very relatable.

I love Haro Aso so much, dude. Alice in Borderlands is just such a beautiful metaphor, I’ll never get over it. This has been on my list for a while, I think Im gonna have to read it now.

17 daysWe’ve hit the point where people find the end of the world is more likely than the end of capitalism

Just getting silly here, but what if the people who are harmed by the system come together and abolish the system, because they are the majority?
- 16 days
There’s a word for that, but whenever I start typing it into my phone a bunch of police drones start to buzz my building.

16 daysThey can’t; they’re too busy posting online daring someone else to do it.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some 90 Days of Real Housewives of Whatever to binge.

16 daysThat would require a level of solidarity that doesn’t exist and a solid plan for what comes after, which no one has.

Most likely a bunch of stupid, selfish, assholes will co-opt whatever rises out of that and things will get just as bad only with worse infrastructure this time.
No joke this is me. I had a major surgical procedure a decade ago. It was a 3 day hospital stay to recover. It’s one of the most relaxing, peaceful times of my life, even with all the pain and nurses checking on me. I remember it very fondly.
- 16 days
I had major surgery last year. I was out of work for 2 months. It was the greatest decompression break from work ever, except I went back a week early and before I was really physically ready because I was only getting about 1/4 of my normal paycheck from disability and I was super broke (luckily I had managed to save up enough to pay my rent in advance). I read lots of books and stayed up all night playing video games and looking outside at the night sky.
It really sucked in other ways. I had 2 entire months where I only spoke to another human maybe 5-6 times and most of those were a coworker who knew I was lonely and would call me during downtime on their shift to check in and see how my recovery was going. It really highlighted how alone and invisible I am in this world and there’s nothing quite so sad as being like well my surgeon says I can’t lift any weight but I have to get groceries into my apartment somehow and take my trash across the complex to the cans and I have literally no one to ask to do that so I guess I’ll just pray I don’t rip open all my incisions and eviscerate myself.

16 daysMany, many people, including myself, embraced the shit out of COVID.
That was a pretty clear sign that our society and way of life sucks.
AmyAye@nord.pubEnglish
16 daysI was almost not at all affected day to day by COVID, I just went to work still because it’s isolated, no mask etc even needed.
But it was soooo much better with less traffic and less people at the stores. Even just, the “one way Aisles” at the stores were so much better. You go in, everything flows so much smoother.

What’s struck me is how in America, the reality is the opposite of those fantasies. What’s that? The nation’s capital is being stormed by fascists attempting to kidnap lawmakers and overthrow the electoral process? And I’m still expected to just work like it’s just a normal day??
- 16 days
I was literally stuck in a fucking Zoom meeting watching the insurrection in another window. Fuck this timeline.
- 16 days
Can confirm. This is me. Especially after the last two years. Everything just feels so hopeless, and I’m expected to spend most of my waking hours feeding a system that gleefully kicks us in the teeth every single day.
- 17 days
It’s easier to imagine a convenient bad thing happening than a good thing happening, I guess?
- Damage@feddit.itItaliano17 days
I think it’s simply that modern life is too far removed from what our instincts evolved to handle… A shitty life or death situation is something we’re more equipped to handle (at least in our imagination) than societal problems so big that are effectively impossible for us to influence.
- 16 days
I guess a possible part of the solution could be breaking these problems down into manageable chunks?
“Think globally, act locally”, as they say… and “locally” doesn’t have to be a physical locale. It can be a fedi instance or a niche group of some kind.
- Damage@feddit.itItaliano16 days
Sure, we do all sorts of things to function in modern society, doesn’t necessarily make it easy, or make escapism less attractive
- 16 days
True, although I meant making steps towards making it easier for everyone.
- moakley@lemmy.worldEnglish16 days
Is that not a normal feeling? Because I felt that way long before things got this bad.
- 16 days
i have always attributed this feeling to the fact we live in a system where our contributions dont really matter, as in that we only work for a number to go up, and not because its actually needed (with few exceptions)
tldr: i think its capitalisms fault.
as always- 16 days
i think our society is making us work in a similar way that a bodybuilder works out: it’s just about making [these muscles / that business] grow, even though they serve no purpose and could just as well just not exist, and things would be equally fine, but for whatever reason, we’ve made it a beauty ideal that these things are as big as possible, so we must max them! every! single! day!
