I would’ve expected this to be a season 2 announcement of the new The Ghost In The Shell anime, but the article calls it “A brand-new animation project based on Shirow Masamune’s monumental cyberpunk manga Ghost in the Shell”. It also says “Animation production for this new project will be handled by Science SARU, the studio behind the 2026 TV series.” That makes it sound like the fact it’s the same studio as the most recent anime is almost coincidental. Strange. I guess we’ll found out more as details come out.

I’m not sure what to make of this, to be honest. I guess I’m fine with a S02 or other effort in the series. I love Science SARU and THE GHOST IN THE SHELL was well done in my opinion. So I’m excited. Thanks for posting.
15 daysIt still might be! I just think their wording in the announcement was strange.

The only thing I can think that sort of makes sense is maybe they’re treating Man-Machine Interface as its own thing rather than a continuation?
Which, given the time-skip, as well as tonal and stylistic differences maybe seems justified.
