To anyone who believe Putin’s right hand is controlling Trump’s mouth:I know where Putin’s left hand is — allow me to introduce German AfD party leader Alice Weidel. The full interview with this Kremlin proxy is mind-blowingly scary — especially from 18:00 where she starts unfolding her Kremlin script about Ukraine. If you want to know what happens if she and Marine Le Pen in France get the power, watch the full video here:youtu.be/_cGGDu8sgXY

She’s defending Russia’s imperialism in broad daylight. She’s saying Ukraine is to small to defend themselves from Russia. If that argument was valid, who else wouldn’t be allowed to defend themselves from Russia? Belarus, Georgia, Estonia. Is Russia entitled to invade and conquer all of them simply because they are significantly larger? Ukraine didn’t start an unwinnable war. They are defending themselves and fighting for their very lives
- 12 days
A good solution to that problem is making Russia small again. It should be split into sovereign nations giving back the land and cultures that they took forcibly.
- idiomaddict@lemmy.worldEnglish12 days
That would even mean there’s another officially Jewish state, which would be helpful in distinguishing between antizionism and antisemitism (assuming [read: really, really hoping] that it doesn’t ally itself with Israel regarding Palestine)
- idiomaddict@lemmy.worldEnglish11 days
exactly. It’s currently only officially Jewish, in that the populations of ethnic and religious Jews are both tiny, but I could see future migration from people who are morally opposed to what the Israeli government is doing, but are afraid to move to a non Jewish state (I imagine they’re hearing a lot of propaganda right now about how unsafe everywhere else in the world is for Jews).
That’s not what I mean though- in all sorts of situations, people accuse those opposed to the state of Israel of antisemitism, because they’re opposed to the only Jewish state. Because there is only one though, it means either Israel’s actions determine objective morality or that argument is nonsense (hint, hint), but the existence of another Jewish state with different politics would still be helpful in shutting it down.

Germany as well. Russia is way bigger than Germany, France, the USA, China… I guess we are all Russians now.

That’s the core quote, I believe.
- 10 days
Correct, or in fewer words, “might makes right.” Except it’s not exactly the moral of the story. AFAICT there is no ‘moral of the story’ as it seems to be meant to engage discussion/debate about the nature of morality in conflict and the defense of a home territory and cultural identity in the face of an overwhelming enemy. Unfortunately the Melians got the bad ending, but it doesn’t always have to be that way and I find it interesting for being one of the earliest examples of such a debate.
- Cethin@lemmy.zipEnglish11 days
But if Ukraine didn’t defend themselves there wouldn’t be a war, so they started it!
(/s, because I know there’s people on this platform who would actually make this argument.)
- SlurpingPus@lemmy.worldEnglish11 days
Belarus is already just short of merging with Russia. Their entire law and bureaucracy are tuned to Russian ones, except of course for the death penalties for dissenters. They straight up have this thing called Union State.
- tirateimas@lemmy.ptEnglish12 days
Russia in 4 years wasn’t able to achieve anything and they are now stuck. They failed on all measures. They tried mercenaries, arsenal from other countries, boots on the ground from other countries, and all sorts of campaigns to make Ukraine and their support to fall. All failed.
I would say Russia is not half as strong as it tries to present itself.
Just tangerine mussolini and this kind of dump politicians fall for it.

The afd is a right-wing, extremist party, with ideas that are a direct threat to democracy. Among all the rightwing parties in Europe, this one is the most dangerous, as it is, at its core, deeply fascist. It’s pulling in uninformed voters, and may well be the biggest party in Germany soon; political chaos will ensue, and ordinary people will suffer the most.
- ZC3rr0r@piefed.caEnglish11 days
Well, I mean National Socialism was the “Alternative for Germany” of its day, so the parallel really must not have gone unnoticed by the AfD either.
- You@feddit.orgEnglish11 days
No no no! You got that wrong. The NSDAP at its core was a leftist party!

I always wonder about those spouses…
You are married to a Nazi. You are brown, so to speak. Do you not understand? What exactly atebyou expecting will happen over time? Like, what is your endgame here?
- HaiZhung@feddit.orgEnglish11 days
There were several documented relationships of high ranking nazis with Jews in the third reich; and those Jews were left alone.
That’s the whole point of their ideology. They are absolutely fine carving out exceptions for themselves whenever it benefits them directly.
You can’t get nazis with logical gotchas or uncovering their inconsistencies. They don’t care about those inconsistencies. They care about getting power and using it for their advantages, and they will say and do anything to get it. For all we know, Alice Weidel’s wife is 100% in on it and probably just doesn’t like publicity.

I’m still not convinced she believes a single thing she’s saying and instead is just saying whatever will give her more voters in order to funnel government money into her swiss bank account. when things get serious and nazis take power and threaten to look more closely at her lifestyle, she is out of there, ready to live a happy queer life with her wife and children and bank account in swiss.
That’s also why she often has that disgusting grin, when holding a speech to her followers, like she is thinking: “i can’t believe these nazi idiots are buying this and keep voting for me”

If Ukraine just chucks in the towel, then Putin will just move on to the next campaign.
- Victor@lemmy.worldEnglish12 days
She isn’t very eloquent. She can’t explain this in other terms than “Ukraine is too small”, but TOGETHER we are not too small, that’s the whole point. She’s a fucking nonce.
- boomzilla@programming.devEnglish11 days
In addition she lies like her true masters Lawrow, Peskow and Putler, all the time. I did a fact check on an interview Bloomberg did with her a year ago or so. About every sentence contained wrong data, false information and lies. Completely unchecked by the interviewer. Posted a lengthy comment which amassed some 3000 likes over night and was demanded by commenters to be pinned. Instead it was deleted. I now know what to think of Bloomberg.
- Dima@feddit.ukEnglish11 days
Depending on the platform you posted it on, it could simply have been silenced by far-righters reporting the comment enough to hit some automatic removal threshold. Not defending Bloomberg, but it’s a possibility to keep in mind.
- boomzilla@programming.devEnglish8 days
Thanks for the explanation. Haven’t thought about that. Could imagine YT works with that kind of automatism. And if it does, it’s highly possible it was mass reported as there was a plethora of raving comments about their glorious poster girl’s prowess. I never had the impression Bloomberg has a right wing drift.
- Victor@lemmy.worldEnglish11 days
I can imagine all of this to be true. She sounds dumb af.
From which platform was this comment you made deleted btw?
- boomzilla@programming.devEnglish9 days
Youtube. Either she lost all her wits while being one of the main propagandists in the AfD or she just plays dumb to cater to her audience. Actually she’s very intelligent (not wise though). She was the highest rated student in her class when she ended college (university in Germany) for economics. She eventually promoted with magna cum laude. She was an analyst for Goldman Sachs. She was granted a one year scholarship in Japan and a five year one in China.
That doesn’t change the fact that I hate her wholeheartedly. At the end Joseph Mengele had two doctor titles too and he was a monster.
She’ll destroy so many lifes when she’ll weasels her way to become the second female chancelour, as she plans.
- Victor@lemmy.worldEnglish8 days
Yet another piece of evidence to the fact that academic prowess doesn’t necessarily equal intelligence.

Finland is a small country, it could never win against russia. Also does german call ukraine “the ukraine” or did she also read that straight from the script? Cause if im correct calling ukraine “the ukraine” is a common thing amongst people who dont believe ukraine is independant from russia.
- You@feddit.orgEnglish11 days
Might be a dog whistle, might be a simple mistake stemming from her being German. Your guess is correct, in German the country’s name has an article and is called “die Ukraine” (no, not meant as a Bart Simpson reference).
- 11 days
Yeah, some already pointed out the German mistranslation. BUT there’s no “the” or “a” in Ukrainian nor in Russian, yet a dogwhistle exists of using “on Ukraine” instead of “in Ukraine”.
sexy_peach@feddit.orgEnglish

I don’t think Putin is controlling them. They just want to grab opportunity of the dismantling system for their delusions of grandeur. Which is worse. That means that getting rid of Putin will change little because other shitheads will continue.
- Rothe@piefed.socialEnglish12 days
He is not controlling all that they do, but he is funding them and and telling them what to think about certain issues. This take on Ukraine being a common talking point among all right wing parties across Europe (and the world) is not a coincidence.
- majster@lemmy.zipEnglish12 days
It does. They want a might makes right system for them to operate from. Its why Trump followed Putin in its logic. Trump got Venezuela and Iran that way. If we are lucky we will never know what AfD wants to get out of this.
- Rothe@piefed.socialEnglish12 days
It is very naive to think there is no collusion going on though. We already have plenty of proof that Putin funds Afd and similar right wing parties in Europe.

This would carry a modicum more weight if Russia’s military wasn’t embarrassing themselves on a daily basis for the past 4 years against that ant hill.
- DillDough@lemmy.zipEnglish11 days
Also…like the actual largest military on the planet always gets fucked up by “small countries”, hell look at what Iran is doing to them right now lol, the smaller country with an actual reason to fight does win fairly frequently.
