“Once consciousness is lost, consent cannot be given or verified.”

Well, yeah no shit. Consent before engagement is consent understanding the potential consequences. Not giving consent prior to losing consciousness is typically called rape. It’s late and I’m tired so correct me if I’m wrong.

    • Any sort of breathplay to the point of unconsciousness is incredibly dangerous and unsafe.

    • 21 days

Normally, sure. But these days, legalese can turn it into implied consent depending on court, judge, jury, accused and accuser. It’s circumstantial and there will be arguers for both cases. So it won’t be a clear win in every case.

(just in case, I didn’t read much past the statement in my first comment) I interpreted that sentence as an in-the-moment situation, leaving judgement and biases out. If someone dies from breath play with unwritten/unrecorded consent there’s (typically) one other person present and no recordings, so it’s their word against the defense.

There’s plenty of times where someone has been choked during sexual interaction, didn’t give consent, and never speaks of it again. Some cases (unfortunately) don’t stop there.

        • 21 days

You can’t consent to being killed, of course

            • 19 days

If you want to be a pedant about it, that’s typically considered “assisted suicide” or “do not resuscitate”, rather than “killing” which is a bit different.

  • 21 days

You really need to trust a person and have an agreement of when to stop and how hard and a safe way to ask to stop for that.

Reminds me of how in the epstein files a still unnamed swell pal of his at his New Mexico Ranch is said to have strangled a girl to death in sex, and they buried her our there.

  • Such a weird and morally loaded article.

It seems to conflate a bunch of choking techniques, only mentioned once with jargon, but keeps talking about breath play only?

Conclusion calls it “not normal” but half of people do it?

Outcomes like Russian roulette? One in six die? Ok?

      • And abstinence is the least effective birth control, but proper education saves lives. Wished this article took the same approach!

Strangulation and breathe play causes permanent brain death. There is no safe way to engage in it.

    • My wife likes when I grab her neck. I am an introverted duck kind of guy, okay? Not your ”Im gonna choke you while I fuck you” kind of guy.

While learning how to do this appropriately, I had squeezed too hard once and killed the mood. 🤷‍♂️

It’s more of a grab, firm hand… not really choke.

      • 19 days

Not trying to judge you sir. Just stating the fact that constricting breathe in any way leads to brain death.

The euphoria that is felt from doing this is due to oxygen deprivation. Doing this regularly with a partner will lead to permanent brain death. This does not mean they die of course, but a part of the brain does and the damage is cumulative.

I personally don’t find giving my partner brain damage to be very sexy. Have fun and be safe!

        • In my wife’s case, it’s mental and not physical. She doesn’t like being choked. She likes the feeling of my hand around her neck. It’s like a domination kind of thing, or something. In similar vein, she likes being called a good girl.

There is no oxygen deprivation going on.

          • yeah, a distinction has to be made between real choking (which can’t really be done safely, even a little bit) and mimicking choking with minimal pressure placed somewhere it won’t actually affect blood/air flow. I am willing to do the latter but would never ever consider the former.

Knowing some anatomy helps, as it’s a lot safer to put pressure on muscles like the upper trapezius that are fully behind the trachea or major arteries/veins. Combine that with light pressure in the front on the collarbone and you have a relatively safe approximation of choking.

the brain does and the damage is cumulative.

How can you tell if that cumulative damage is present? What are the symptoms? I didn’t know that :o .

          • 19 days

Most commonly seizures, memory loss, motor control loss, dementia, or in more extreme situations coma and even a persistent vegetative state.

            • 19 days

Well, the coma and vegetative state are clear, but the cumulative damage is new to me. Thank you for your response.

The following obvious only if consensual:

      • Grabbing the neck is fine
      • Pressing some on the neck is fine
      • Restricting movement is fine

Choking can cause permanent damage to the neck and or throat and can cause severe neurological damage and or death. You really want to risk that? Even with a partner that had it done “many times and nothing bad happened!”, yeah. It only needs to go wrong once, you only need to slip up once, you only need one tiny thing going wrong and both you and your partner will have your life taken or ruined.

Just don’t, this literally isn’t worth it. Get high (weed) and have sex, that’ll do just fine

That image made me wonder how the woman is choking him from behind.

If strangling women gets you off you belong in prison

What if I enjoy a little chokey choke from my wife, and she enjoys it too, as well as vice versa? Should we both be in jail?

      • 21 days

tee hee! an ickle wickle chokey wokey!

        i’d throw away the key

        • 21 days

🤷‍♂️ we don’t do it hard, you know. Just barely more than making skin contact so you can feel a little bit of pressure. It’s not like full on Homer-on-Bart “why you little—” squeezing the neck… 🙄 Plus it’s mutual.

          But whatever. 😊

          • 21 days

christ do they allow child marriages wherever you’re from

barely more than making skin contact

it’s not about you then is it

            • It’s weird that you think you get a say about how other people have sex.

              Keep it at church, creep.

    • What if i don’t really care about it, but the women are super into it? Asking for a friend

    • Upvote given in the mass of downvotes. Looks like a lot of people might be eligible for prison.
