They had a short amount of space to pass (unsafely) before it went back down to 1 lane and think of the inconvenience. They are so fucking lucky they don’t have manslaughter of that pedestrian on their record—oniy because it happened to be someone walking who was fast and paying attention–exactly because of how dangerous it is to be a pedestrian.
- BradleyUffner@lemmy.worldEnglish20 days
Looks like he started trying to pass the truck before it entered the frame, then had to swerve back to the left to avoid the incoming car, clipped the corner of the truck, and the rest is on camera.

Who pays for the shit he had to drop to get out of the way? And for the new pair of pants he needs
- arrow74@lemmy.zipEnglish20 days
Technically the driver’s insurance, but it would take a lawyer. Ultimately they would be responsible though
- Trainguyrom@reddthat.comEnglish20 days
Basically he can make a claim on the driver’s insurance, although I have a feeling the insurance might try to get out of paying for the pedestrian’s shopping since that’s kinda hard to prove the loss on and slightly nonstandard

At least react to the loud as fuck crash that happened 5 feet away from them? They keep walking the exact same pace, seemingly unphazed.
- dracc@discuss.tchncs.deEnglish11 days
Quite possible, stlll loud as fuck and close enough to warrant a reaction from anyone at that range not already dead.

The driver wasn’t even wearing a seatbelt, airbags aren’t activating.
- Actionschnils@feddit.orgEnglish20 days
As far as I know, they arent depending on each other. The energy of the crash just wasnt enough I assume.
- Damarus@feddit.orgEnglish20 days
I just went by what I heard when writing that comment. Apparently it depends on the car, so I can’t say for sure. I would’ve assumed the impact(s) and roll were strong enough to trigger emergency systems. Whiplash is a bitch.
- f314@lemmy.worldEnglish20 days
While I think you’re right, I would really like to have side airbags go off in a roll like that 😅 This car might not have had them, though.

20 daysare those cars parked all over the sidewalk and ol mate has to walk on the road ?
- Speiser0@feddit.orgEnglish20 days
No, those are parking lots. The car left the road. Also the pedestrian doesn’t look old to me.
- CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.socialEnglish20 days
What’s that box marking in the center of the frame supposed to mean?
- Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.worldEnglish19 days
Looks like a different kind of parking spot, note that it’s directly in front of a space where a car isn’t parked. If I had to guess the clear space is an entryway of some kind that is being kept clear by shifing the parking space out (probably just shouldn’t have one at all, but maybe there are parking minimums). If you look to the other side of the street you can see similarly parked cars with walls to their side, so it can’t be intended as a sidewalk there.

21 dayswhich is why you shoulfd always walk facing oncoming traffic.
ALSO I only vote for violent anarchistic or communistic candidates who want to destroy car-centric infrastructure.

18 daysIn my opinion there should always be a ‘barrier’ between the cars’ roads and the pedestrians’ / bicyclists’ sidewalk. A steel fence that can stop a speeding car would be nice but Id also accept one of those rectangular patches of grass surrounded by concrete .
- 19 days
the anarchist candidate? Wouldnt they struggle against their cause by legitimating state might?
UnequalExchange@lemmy.worldEnglish
19 daysnah. The USSR existed as a state obviously, but if you talk to ANY communist worth their mettle they will tell you that communism can only exist in an stateless world. There is nothing wrong with using states in order to bring about a transition phase where states are increasingly no longer existing by the end of the transition. Now, I do Admit that this thing I just talked about is a hard thing to do today and even in the past since most humans today are STILL choosing to be nationalistic shit-for-brains but people need to understamd that oppression will always exist as long as nationalism is also allowed to exist. Once humanity smartens the fuck up, for once, and realizes that we have no need for any forms of oppresion , things will be VERY different.
…uh…if humanity doesnt blow itself up with nukes first.
I have no idea what humanity plans on doing with its future at this point based on the people I talk to IRL and the news. So Im just waiting for either the nukes or a world without oppression…
- Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.worldEnglish19 days
That rule only applies when there is no sidewalk available, which there very clearly is here. If you are in the sidewalk you can go whichever direction you prefer.
- chewypoops@lemmy.worldEnglish20 days
Y’all, this is AI slop. Look at how the car fucking leaps into the air. It makes no sense at all.
- 20 days
That’s what happens when tyre face hits tyre face with a collision in this direction. The tyres grip each other and it launches the car coming from behind.
- altphoto@lemmy.todayEnglish20 days
Basically the tire speeds double and are applied almost vertically to the car behind. That launches the car upwards from the front.
- dracc@discuss.tchncs.deEnglish20 days
The tire grip is good enough to fling a car 3 feet into the air and make it roll over twice, in an instant, while going 30 mph? I need to know where you’re buying tires with that kind of grip!
- dracc@discuss.tchncs.deEnglish19 days
In open wheel racing (F1, F2, …) tyre on tyre contact happens every few races. Yet, somehow, they don’t take to the skies? If anything, they have less drag upwards that would stop them.
- dracc@discuss.tchncs.deEnglish13 days
That car didn’t start flying until he was driving OVER the wheels. That’s a far worse position to be in than rubbing sidewalls together.
- nullspace@lemmy.worldEnglish20 days
You ever watch NASCAR? A tire rolling over another tire is like a Mario Kart launching ramp.
