• Considering the “left” in America, is just right-wing light, here it’s more like.

“Left”: let’s hold the breaks down so we don’t slip further back

“Centrist”: let’s let go of the breaks so we can stop when we get back to the right amount of racism

Right: let’s cut the fucking break lines and just kill everyone.

    • Following this metaphor, I see it as: US Left: car’s in neutral on a steep incline, foot is off the brake and they aren’t sure if they’re moving backwards or everyone outside is moving forward. Regardless they think they’re doing a great job.

Center: same as above but they’re complaining that everyone outside is going too fast that they may have even gone past their destination.

Right: same car, same place, but the car’s in reverse and the foot is on full throttle. The center is still complaining about the speed but they’re enjoying the view. The US Left is now fully aware of the backwards movement but it doesn’t want to take the seatbelt off for the sake of self preservation at the cost of everyone else outside. The rest of the world is either steering clear or has been reversed in to like in one of rear-end insurance scams.

      Driver changes every 4 years.

      • If by US left you mean the DNC, it seems more like they have their feet on both the brake and the accelerator, and they don’t know which gear they are in [they are in reverse]. They are trying to figure out which pedal to lift first.

      • 3 days

This one seems to be the most apt, since none of them are moving forward.

    • Right these days is basically “Let’s back over those children over there and set the car on fire while we’re inside.”

      • Or “day 1 has a genocide either way; but we can elect someone who’ll listen to us and quit, and maybe also help us in so many other ways, or we can just elect the cast of Mad Max.”

  • Me: we should replace the car with a bike as it doesn’t depend on eternally burning a dwindling fuel supply and it improves your mental and physical wellbeing.

    • Bikes are not feasible where I live. Temperatures don’t go below 40°C until after 10pm for 7 months out of the year. Just going into town for groceries is a 20 minute drive through mountainous terrain, too difficult to pedal through in the scorching heat if you’re not an athlete. Not even an eBike can go further than approx 10 miles in this environment. Heat and all the elevation changes drain the battery rapidly. Bike lanes and public transportation don’t exist here.

So Lemmy can hate on me and my car all you want, but I have no choice but to own one. It’s not right. It needs to change. All in saying is don’t hate people like me because I have no other form of transportation. Hate on the corporations that pollute way more in two seconds than my little Nissan Z ever will in its entire lifespan.

      • Sure, but most people don’t live where you live. A bike doesn’t need to solve 100% of problems to still be something to push for when it does solve like 90% of them.

Not even joking there, the VAST majority of trips people drive for here are stupidly short distances. Sure for the 1 guy going 200 miles to work each morning probably needs to just fucking move closer to work use a car, but for everyone else a bike would be fine and leave cleaner air.

Then looking at carparks where I live, there is no excuse here. By local geography, essentially none of these people live beyond a reasonable walking or cycling distance, our air quality is much worse because of it and we are one of the fattest towns in the country despite being as flat as the Netherlands. If they did live far away enough to need to drive, they wouldn’t be coming here.

  • the right, accelerating to redline anyway: take that left! smell the carbon monoxide?! yeahhhh me too!

  • Add to it, from my understanding of the general use of the labels. Liberals - we should go forward, but let up on the clutch only a little. We might roll back some, but we’re trying. Leftists - rev the engine when you let the clutch out, let’s go!

  • I feel like the car should be facing left

Edit: apparently some people feel strongly that I am incorrect. Fuck me I guess

Edit: am I missing something about the fundamental message of the post or am I just being down voted without replies just because?

    • i think it’s more that in latin derived language at least left to right indicates progress, so the direction of the car can either indicate progress by facing from left to right, or comply with the lexically similar reading by facing left… but i think given that left vs right isn’t definitively progress, direction of travel being left to right is probably apt

      (i didn’t down vote you)

  • This site is delusional when it comes to leftists and how (in)effective they are.

There would be five leftists fighting about which forward gear they should be in while one lets the air out of the tires to help combat genocide.
