Gas prices are reaching record levels and bringing the Bolt back is a “huge mistake”. Hard to wrap my head around any of this making sense outside of short term investor concerns.

It’s simple: China has been taking BEVs seriously for 20+ years and US companies (and govt) simply haven’t, so China has the better product. Once BYD etc sets up factories in Mexico, the BEV market is theirs and nobody will want to pay twice the price for GM’s inferior crap. It makes much more sense for them to squeeze what they can from a declining ICE market than to spend decades of losses trying to catch up to The King.
short term investor concerns
This is the only thing the system responds to.

Cars in general are getting wildly expensive, so is insurance. It’s going to push people to own fewer cars and into accepting self-driving services like Waymo. You will own nothing and be happy.

No one can afford a detached house without an Hoa to install a charger

I’ve had a 2017 Bolt for a year. I charge on a standard 120V outlet at 12amps. I have only needed to fast charge once.

I installed a charger in my (townhouse-style) condo. I even run the cord under the garage door to charge in the driveway.
Most new 5-over-one apartment complexes include a handful of chargers.
A lot of parking garages are getting chargers installed so you can charge at work.
You still have to be able to charge at home or work, and you might have to get creative, but the options are a lot more plentiful these days.

What? The car GM didn’t want to sell isn’t selling?

When my parents were looking for an EV, I didn’t even bother looking at anything from an American brand. Chevy was all “No CarPlay or android auto in new EVs” And I was like “oh GM, please go die in a fire, you’re a waste of market space.”

My partner decided to take out a loan on his 2023 Chevy Bolt rather than pay in full, with the idea if the new model came out with features he wanted (mainly continued support for Comma self driving) he would do a trade-in. Then we saw the news that the new Chevy Bolt is basically a downgrade in terms of things like not having Android Auto anymore, so he just paid off the loan in full and has no interest in “upgrading.” Chevy shot themselves in the foot; US EV manufacturers need to get their shit together.
My past Bolt had carplay and android auto, did they change it? If so, dumb.

Yeah, in 2023 they announced that they would phase out CarPlay And android auto in EVs while continuing to support it in their ICE models starting with the 2024 Chevy Blazer EV.

The Honda Prologue, which is basically a rebranded Blazer EV, still has Android Auto. But it’s also being discontinued after 2026.

Which is funny because a lot of those same complaints aren’t directed at Tesla or rivian, etc

The US EV market is pathetic. Half of all EV sales are just two Tesla models. All the other auto makers are competing for the other half, of a shrinking pie. That pie isn’t big enough for Chevy to offer both a small electric SUV and an electric subcompact SUV, that’s in a similar price range. The Equinox EV is the better selling model so it makes sense they’d keep that one and ditch the Bolt.
