I’m afraid to ask why you have it then. Both for why you bought it or ahem received it, and why you haven’t gotten rid of it.

Currently, we only have baseball caps and beanies in common circulation, with impractical-for-sidewalk-use cowboy hats being the only extant outlier.

This really depends on what types of events you attend and the people you associate with. I rarely see baseball caps (and almost never a cowboy hat), but I routinely see flat caps.

Check out whatever merch shops have at whatever events you attend. Most sell hats of some sort, and probably more than just baseball caps.

Or, better yet, just wear whatever you want to wear without worrying about how others see you. Making your fashion choices based on how others will see you will never make people respect you.

In the US you usually don’t have a duty of care for random people you may encounter during random activities. I would be amazed if she has a duty of care for people involved in traffic accidents that she happens to see, when she’s not part of the first responders (EMTs and the like). She’s not being paid for this work, and has signed no agreement to take that responsibility.

There’s “duty of care” (where you are obligated to provide aid, usually due to your profession) and separately there’s “Good Samaritan” laws (you don’t have to help, but you are qualified to do so and protected from any results). The details on both of these vary tremendously based on jurisdiction and circumstance, particularly the Good Samaritan requirements.
