  • Nintendo hasn’t innovated anything since the Super Nintendo. It’s been the same schlock over and over again, just with variations on a theme. Open-world games aren’t inherently innovative, and there are multiple better open-world games than freaking Mario Kart.

And that puzzle game was basically a rehash of something they made back in the early 2000s. Nintendo is the king of rinse and repeat.

I remember everyone shitting their pants over Breath of the Wild. I literally bought a Wii U just to play it, and I liked the game. I thought it was very, very good. But then I played Horizon Zero Dawn and realized just how comparatively lazy Breath of the Wild felt.

Nintendo knows exactly what they have. They understand their fanbase, they know nostalgia will carry them a long way, and they take advantage of that in much the same way Apple does. They don’t necessarily have to reinvent the wheel when they know people will happily buy the same wheel with a slightly different hubcap every few years.

  • No one hates you. And honestly, “hate” is an extremely strong word that doesn’t really fit what you’re describing.

But you need to understand that words have power. You’re not being avant-garde, edgy, or particularly creative simply because you’re willing to write whatever happens to enter your head. Being an artist doesn’t mean having absolute creative freedom without consequence. Art is a relationship between the artist and an audience. If you want people to listen, read, watch, or care about what you create, you have to give them something they actually want to engage with.

Virtually every famous artist throughout history did commissioned work, commercial work, or work they weren’t particularly passionate about just to keep themselves fed and able to continue creating. That’s how the industry works. And plenty of artists weren’t recognized as important until decades or even centuries after they died. Fame isn’t an inherent measure of artistic value, and obscurity isn’t evidence that the world simply “doesn’t understand” you.

If you want your writing to matter, then write about something that matters. Writing obsessively about shooting up schools, ammunition, chatbots, and other subjects designed to make people uncomfortable doesn’t automatically make the work profound or transgressive. If the primary effect of your writing is simply to make other people feel disturbed, threatened, or miserable, then you should probably stop and ask yourself why you’re doing it.

And if you’re writing these things because you’re genuinely thinking about hurting yourself or someone else, that’s a completely different issue. You need to seek help before you do something irreversible that you will regret.

Every human life has value. Your life included. You don’t need to convince everyone that you’re a misunderstood genius, and you don’t need to make people uncomfortable to prove that you’re an artist.

If you want people to accept your work, then create something they can actually accept. That’s not selling out. That’s understanding the fundamental relationship between an artist and an audience.

Nobody hates you because you write stupid things. People dislike what you write because what you’re writing makes them feel terrible. Those are two very different things, and understanding that distinction might be the first genuinely useful piece of criticism you receive.

  • Great, another “AI sucks and I’m so much more enlightened because I don’t like or use AI” post.

The irony of using the internet on a device to post about the energy consumption of AI while relying on that same general infrastructure and energy consumption to make and distribute the post is… rather fantastic.

If OP really wanted to make a point about reducing AI usage, there is something amusing about using an internet-based service to make that argument.

And the fact that the joke is considered unfunny specifically because it was AI-generated seems like a particularly strange criticism. Whether someone personally likes or dislikes AI is certainly their prerogative, but that doesn’t really tell anyone anything about whether the joke itself works. It’s a little like saying, “I don’t like this joke because of the tool that was used to make it.”

  • No, neither claim survives the light of day; Why set thyself beside the Bard at all? Thy works inhabit not the selfsame sphere; To liken thee to Shakespeare is to ask How well a rusted pogo stick might fare When sent to breach the heavens in a craft Designed by hands that conquered lunar seas.

And cease this strange recital of thy bans; For none may verify the tales thou tell. Thou claim’st that every gate hath barred thy way, Then trumpet’st forth the very words that made Those gates, it seems, so eager to be closed. Perhaps the fault lies not in every door, But in the hand that knocks upon them all.

Turn, then, thy gaze upon the inward glass And ask what common thread binds every gate. For when the world itself becomes the foe, And every forum casts thee to the void, Some modest introspection might reveal What in thy conduct summons such disdain.

And more: thy discourse wanders into realms Of shootings, narcotics, and stranger things, Then wonders why the doors refuse thy name. The cosmos need not conspire against thee; Perhaps, dear interlocutor, the cause Is somewhat nearer than thy theories claim.
