True, though I guess they don’t change the OS (only the repos), and don’t advertise/celebrate it as much…
But complaining or anything, just thinking “out loud” why people could feel this way about Debian but not Mint
Nope, they’re completely separate distro families!
Because Mint does release minor releases every 6 months

5 daysMy favourite part is the updater and I miss it in other distros. I don’t always want to update blindly, I hate it about Windows and Arch and NixOS don’t fare much better OOTB. Mint’s updater shows you what can be updated, the from and to versions, how much data would be transferred, and most importantly the changelog of each part!
I genuinely appreciate I can go through these, uninstall anything I don’t use anymore and learn what new things will come to my computer!
At least having this option beats "Build 16553 is downloading several gigs over your hotspot, it’s important to do this now trust us” from Windows 😒

7 daysThat’s also true, I jumped ship when I got harassed by Reddit admins, these mods jumping ship because they disagree with the instance mods looks a tad similar to me. You might have a point there

7 daysJumping on here late as I just noticed there was a larger 196 community on this instance…
Add someone who’s co-modded some smaller subreddits before, as well as co-modded Discord servers, I get where the mods are coming from. They likely devote a ton of their free time moderating and fostering this community, and now people from the instance can just walk in and fuck it up for them! I totally get they want to move away from here, and it’s fully in their right to do so as mods. They don’t want to throw away the community that their hard work fostered, so they’re migrating it to where they can keep going on as normal. Now, I don’t have context about the moderation from the blahaj.zone instance, Kolanaki’s ban from Ada for instance. I see one of K’s replies but not the comment it was about. So I don’t know how reasonable this was.
With everything said, I also get that the people in the community feel their trust betrayed; they were promised a blahaj.zone 196 community and now their community is archived because… *checks notes* A possible transphobe was banned? Yep, that’s no blahaj.zone then!
IMO your mistake was indeed not communicating this beforehand, because this way you could not get input from the community, and worked towards a solution that fits everyone (e.g. creating a lemmy.world 196 community but also leaving this one open to newly appointed mods that suit the community better)
Sorry if my late rambling was unwanted, I’ll be moving on now o7
This is why people like this are told to go outside or touch grass.

As someone who’s come back to Mint after distro hopping several times, welcome home 💚
