  • Semantics, but my interpretation is that work can be uplifting. Like yard work is work. Helping friends move is work. Working on your life drawing is work. Working out is maybe even work.

Jobs on the other hand are what I could do without.

But like I said, it’s just semantics. I agree with you.

  • Lol yeah it’s the exact same [facetious] logic as expecting increasing the working day from 10 ~> 20 hours to lead to increased productivity.

It’s almost like ample and adequate rest need to be baked into scheduling?

  • Actually surprised how candid some of these statements are. Maybe points to more internal resistance than I would have assumed… like, they see the problem.

Their focus on threats to media companies is probably borne out of fear of litigation, so maybe they only pay a lil lip service to how they also hurt “content creators” (people).

Could also be that they know that when talking to the representatives of runaway financial automatons like multinational corporations, they have to appeal in terms the machine will understand.

  • Yeah throwing out an entire computer because one little component is burnt out, or throwing out a whole component because one little connection is burnt out. And then there’s even micro soldering if you want to get surgical…

Or simply throwing a computer away because it’s slower than the new one. The price paid by the environment, by future generations, for e-waste needs to be front-loaded into the manufacturing process.

Otherwise companies are just stealing from the future and turning collective horizon into an unlivable garbage dump.

  • Not saying it’s the case here, but I’ve never heard this argument raised in good faith, like by someone who is interested in reducing the amount of suffering caused by humans to non-humans. It’s always brought up as some thought-terminating catch-22 device to just keep doing wtf ever you want to do anyway.

I am genuinely curious what you think we should do with this information, though. Like how has it influenced your own actions?
