The only silver lining to ending slavery for the owner class was that at least now the cogs were responsible for their own room and board and etc
*acknowledging that slavery hasn’t truly, universally ended
Lol yeah it’s the exact same [facetious] logic as expecting increasing the working day from 10 ~> 20 hours to lead to increased productivity.
It’s almost like ample and adequate rest need to be baked into scheduling?

6 hoursYou don’t have to be reasonable when it comes to megacorps, because they suck and we all hate them.
They also didn’t think birds had sex, so I don’t put much stock in making the connection between humans and other animals. They probably didn’t even see people as animals
Speaking monolithically

1 dayWent to get glasses and made a big point of avoiding Ray Bands for taking Facebook money to make pervert glasses. Hoping it’s not the first time they’ve heard that.
I do actually like the classic nerd look of their glasses, but yeah, fuck that.

1 dayYeah I don’t even use ai so I can’t compare, but even paid search services are noticeably so much more frustrating.

1 dayYeah once the mainstream is fully saturated they’ll turn their gaze to smaller, more “authentic” places. Imagine if they could have a boot infiltrate a tiny little private chat between a dozen people by building up the appearance of an organic presence on the fediverse / indie web.
Now advertisers (and potentially, malicious state actors) have a little spy and influencer in your group.

1 dayActually surprised how candid some of these statements are. Maybe points to more internal resistance than I would have assumed… like, they see the problem.
Their focus on threats to media companies is probably borne out of fear of litigation, so maybe they only pay a lil lip service to how they also hurt “content creators” (people).
Could also be that they know that when talking to the representatives of runaway financial automatons like multinational corporations, they have to appeal in terms the machine will understand.

3 daysYeah throwing out an entire computer because one little component is burnt out, or throwing out a whole component because one little connection is burnt out. And then there’s even micro soldering if you want to get surgical…
Or simply throwing a computer away because it’s slower than the new one. The price paid by the environment, by future generations, for e-waste needs to be front-loaded into the manufacturing process.
Otherwise companies are just stealing from the future and turning collective horizon into an unlivable garbage dump.
The ethical argument was totally persuasive to me. I mean firstly it was a matter of challenge, but I also like opting out of cruel industries as much as I can handle.
I’m also not trying to universalise anything, but all your points so far are covered here. The use of inflammatory language to suggest I want you genocide animals is a new one I will admit.
You also didn’t answer my question.
Not saying it’s the case here, but I’ve never heard this argument raised in good faith, like by someone who is interested in reducing the amount of suffering caused by humans to non-humans. It’s always brought up as some thought-terminating catch-22 device to just keep doing wtf ever you want to do anyway.
I am genuinely curious what you think we should do with this information, though. Like how has it influenced your own actions?
I’ve been on the fence about honey for a while but tbh I’ve heard enough. I’ll just switch to maple spread or jam.

Semantics, but my interpretation is that work can be uplifting. Like yard work is work. Helping friends move is work. Working on your life drawing is work. Working out is maybe even work.
Jobs on the other hand are what I could do without.
But like I said, it’s just semantics. I agree with you.
