Wir haben eine Reihe von Custom-Emojis auf Feddit.org hinzugefügt! Ab sofort für alle feddit.org-Nutzer verfügbar. Leider ist die Erfahrung damit aktuell jedoch am besten mit dem offiziellen Lemmy-UI. Wir haben bereits festgestellt, dass einige Apps und andere Frontends diese bisher nicht supporten. Sie werden zwar angezeigt, aber senden kann man sie nicht. Das ist schade, aber es liegt in der Verantwortung dieser Entwickler, mal nachzuziehen. Da können wir nichts beeinflussen.

Insgesamt haben wir nun 17 Variationen unseres Logos, damit ihr eure Gefühle noch eleganter ausdrücken könnt. Jedes Emoji hat einen Code, mit dem ihr es ganz einfach in Kommentaren aufrufen könnt. Dieser fängt immer mit einem Doppelpunkt an und endet auch mit einem. Also z. B. so:

We’ve added a set of custom emojis to Feddit.org! Starting now, they’ll be available for all Feddit.org users. Unfortunately, the experience with them is currently best with the official Lemmy UI. We’ve already found that some apps and other frontends don’t support them yet. They will display them, but you can’t send them. That’s a shame, but it’s up to the developers of those frontends to catch up. We can’t influence that.

Sicherlich hat mittlerweile jeder das Drama um Tesseract mitbekommen.

tl;dr

Das alternative Lemmy-Frontend Tesseract entschied sich dazu, einen Haufen Accounts, Instanzen und Schlagwörter zu shadowbannen. Ein großer Teil dieser Shadowbanliste war nicht Teil des offen verfügbaren Source Codes, sondern wurde nachträglich vom Client gezogen.

Gerade in den Schlagwörtern sieht man einige Begrifflichkeiten, die nicht problematisch sind, sondern wohl nur der politischen Meinung des Entwicklers von Tesseract missfallen. Es herrscht ein großer Fokus gegen linkes Gedankengut. Nach einem Shitstorm der Lemmy-Community wurde Tesseract von Github genommen. Also hat der Entwickler es vermutlich nun hiermit eingestampft.

Unser Statement

Was auf Feddit.org erlaubt ist und was nicht, ist Aufgabe von unserem Admin-Team und in den jeweiligen Communitys Aufgabe von unseren zahlreichen freiwilligen Moderatoren. Wir verurteilen diese intransparente und willkürliche, über Instanzregeln stellende Maßnahme von Tesseract.

Wir sind uns nicht mehr sicher, ob wir diesem Projekt und diesem Entwickler vertrauen können.

Daher hat sich Feddit.org dazu entschieden, unser Angebot von Tesseract unter t.feddit.org abzuschalten.

Die Abschaltung erfolgt am 31.07.2026

Alternativen

Wenn du ein Nutzer von Tesseract warst, tut uns das sehr leid. Wir hoffen auf euer Verständnis, den Umständen entsprechend. Im Admin-Team schmerzt das einigen genauso.

Wir verweisen auf unsere anderen alternativen UIs: p.feddit.org, a.feddit.org, next.feddit.org und old.feddit.org. Eventuell findet ihr ja einen neuen Favoriten.

Tesseract entstand damals als eine Fork von Photon. Photon ist bis heute wohl noch am ähnlichsten zu Tesseract. Photon ist zu erreichen unter p.feddit.org.

Sollte sich eine gut gepflegte Fork aus Tesseract ergeben, welche die Vertrauensbrüche aufräumt, würden wir uns auch wieder freuen, diese zu hosten.

Surely by now everyone has heard about the drama surrounding Tesseract.

tl;dr

The alternative Lemmy frontend Tesseract decided to shadowban a bunch of accounts, instances, and keywords. A large part of this shadowban list was not part of the openly available source code, but was pulled by the client afterward.

You can see several words in the keywords that aren’t problematic, but likely just displeased the political opinion of Tesseract’s developer. There is a strong focus against left-leaning ideas. After a shitstorm from the Lemmy community, Tesseract was taken down from GitHub. So the developer has most likely now ended the project.

Our Statement

What’s allowed on Feddit.org and what isn’t is up to our admin team, and within the respective communities it’s up to our many volunteer moderators. We condemn this opaque and arbitrary measure by Tesseract, imposing itself over instance rules.

We’re no longer sure whether we can trust this project and this developer.

Therefore, Feddit.org has decided to shut down our offering of Tesseract under t.feddit.org.

The shutdown will take place on 31.07.2026

Alternatives

If you were a user of Tesseract, we’re very sorry. We hope you can understand, given the circumstances. Some in the admin team also feel this pain just as much.

We point you to our other alternative UIs: p.feddit.org, a.feddit.org, next.feddit.org, and old.feddit.org. Maybe you’ll find a new favorite.

Tesseract originally emerged as a fork of Photon. Photon is likely still the most similar to Tesseract. Photon is available at p.feddit.org.

If a well-maintained fork of Tesseract emerges that addresses these breaches of trust, we would also be happy to host it again.

Update wurde soeben abgeschlossen und alles Services stehen wieder wie gehabt zur Verfügung.

The update has been finished and all services are available again as before.

Am 24.07.26 werden auf den feddit.org Serversystemen Wartungsarbeiten durchgeführt. Es werden Server Distributionsupdates sowie aktuelle Security und Kernel Fixes eingespielt, die u.a. einen Neustart des Datenbankservers erfordern. In der Zeit von 16:00 - 18:00 MESZ kann es daher zu kurzen Unterbrechungen kommen.

Dank der persistenten Föderationswarteschlange von Lemmy gehen uns keine Aktivitäten von anderen Lemmy-Instanzen verloren. Es kann jedoch einige Minuten länger dauern, bis wir wieder mit allen Instanzen synchronisiert sind. Bei anderer Fediverse-Software könnten möglicherweise Posts, Kommentare oder Votes verloren gehen, wenn diese nicht mit der Downtime auf der Empfängerseite umgehen können.

On July 24, 2026, maintenance will be conducted on the feddit.org server infrastructure. The servers will get distribution updates as well as security and kernel fixes which require a reboot of the database server. There may be brief interruptions between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM CEST.

Thanks to Lemmy’s persistent federation queue, we will not lose any activity from other Lemmy instances. However, it may take a few minutes longer until we are synchronized with all instances again. Other Fediverse software may lose posts, comments or votes if they cannot handle the downtime on the receiving end.

Ankündigung: Änderung IP der Adresse von feddit.org

Ablauf der Wartungsarbeiten

Am Freitag, den 30.01.2026, wird sich im Laufe des Tages die IP Adresse von feddit.org von 146.255.56.83 auf 146.255.56.93 ändern.

Grund dafür ist, dass wir die komplette Instanz auf einen neuen Kubernetes-Cluster umziehen. Die Migration wird so verlaufen, dass wir im ersten Schritt feddit.org auf beiden IPs parallel erreichbar machen werden (die Datenbackends für Text und Bilder sind ident und sowohl vom alten als auch vom neuen Cluster aus erreichbar).

Wir werden dann beobachten, wie viele Zugriffe noch über die alte IP Adresse erfolgen, und dann entscheiden, wann wir den alten Cluster komplett abschalten können. Geplant ist aktuell eine Übergangszeit von ca. einer Woche. Damit sollte die Migration für alle Benutzer, unabhängig von DNS Caches etc. transparent verlaufen.

Änderungen am Bot-Schutz

Wie ihr vermutlich wisst, versuchen Bots der LLM-Firmen (OpenAI, Antropic etc.) aggressiv Websites nach Inhalten zu durchsuchen, und verursachen dadurch immer wieder Performance- und Zugriffsprobleme. Aus diesem Grund schützen wir feddit.org in Zukunft mit Anubis. Dabei muss der Browser eine einfache “proof-of-work” Aufgabe lösen, bevor Inhalte präsentiert werden. Bei der “normalen” Verwendung von feddit.org fällt diese Maßnahme nicht ins Gewicht, hat sich aber als sehr effizient bei der Abwehr von Bots erwiesen.

Weiters heben wir auch die weitreichenden IP-Blockaden für gewisse “problematische” Netzblöcke auf - feddit.org ist damit wieder uneingeschränkt und weltweit erreichbar. Auch die Probleme, dass Bilder von feddit.org auf anderen Instanzen unter Umständen nicht geladen werden können, sollte damit gelöst sein.

Weitere Schritte

Nachgelagert werden wir die alte Instanz abschalten, und mit einer Infoseite für die Änderung ersetzen, falls dort noch Traffic aufschlagen sollte.

Danach werden wir in einem nachgelagerten Wartungsfenster feddit.org auf die aktuellste Lemmy Version aktualisieren. Dafür wird es noch eine separate Information geben.

Announcement: IP Address Change for feddit.org

Maintenance Schedule

On Friday, January 30, 2026, the IP address for feddit.org will change from 146.255.56.83 to 146.255.56.93 over the course of the day.

The reason for this is that we are moving the entire instance to a new Kubernetes cluster. The migration will proceed as follows: in the first step, we will make feddit.org accessible on both IPs in parallel (the data backends for text and images are identical and accessible from both the old and new clusters).

We will then monitor how many accesses are still occurring via the old IP address and decide when we can completely shut down the old cluster. Currently, a transition period of about one week is planned. This should make the migration transparent for all users, regardless of DNS caches, etc.

Changes to Bot Protection

As you probably know, bots from LLM companies (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) aggressively try to crawl websites for content, repeatedly causing performance and access issues. For this reason, we will protect feddit.org in the future with Anubis. This requires the browser to solve a simple “proof-of-work” task before content is presented. For “normal” use of feddit.org, this measure is not noticeable but has proven very effective in defending against bots.

Furthermore, we are also lifting the extensive IP blocks for certain “problematic” network ranges - feddit.org will thus be fully accessible again worldwide. The issues where images from feddit.org might not load on other instances should also be resolved.

Next Steps

Subsequently, we will shut down the old instance and replace it with an information page about the change, in case any traffic still lands there.

After that, we will update feddit.org to the latest Lemmy version in a subsequent maintenance window. There will be a separate announcement for that.

Da in den letzten Tagen bereits mehrfach das Problem auftrat, dass Posts und/oder Kommentare nicht angezeigt wurden, was in der Regel auf eine falsche Konfiguration der Spracheinstellungen zurückzuführen war, gibt es hier jetzt eine kurze Information dazu wie ihr das Problem beheben könnt.

In euren Accounteinstellungen könnt ihr auswählen in welchen Sprachen euch Inhalte angezeigt werden. In den meisten Fällen wollt ihr hier mindestens Undetermined, Deutsch, als auch English ausgewählt haben.

Ob Ihr von diesem Problem betroffen seid könnt ihr auch in diesem Post prüfen. Wir haben von diesem Benutzer 3 Kommentare zu diesem Post erstellt, einen auf Deutsch, einen auf Englisch, sowie einen ohne Sprachauswahl. Falls ihr nicht alle 3 Kommentare seht ist euer Problem mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit eine unpassende Sprachauswahl.
