apart from the whole litany of benefits of writing for yourself (and the inherent issues with handing the production of nonliberal theory over to nonthinking LLMs trained on liberal texts), the problem with using LLMs for writing is that it is a black box through which no one can determine your writing process. i.e. when the output is obviously AI-generated, no one can determine the extent to which you used AI in your process, only that you used it at least some: did you use it to simply polish a few sentences? did you use it to create whole elaborative sentences? did you use it to create the entire structure of the piece? worst of all, did you use it to create entire points of your argument?
you can’t blame anyone for questioning the authenticity of your writing when it isn’t entirely your writing. if you care enough about the contents therein you should care enough to take the extra time to actually write it yourself. otherwise, yeah, i don’t think the contents deserve to be responded to. and, after all, this question is directly related to what LLMs are “actually for”
i’m not exactly sure what the source of your self-ire is, but i think even the characterization of your mistake(s) as being “childish” isn’t being totally fair to yourself. to me this implies one of two potential things:
that your error was something you should have somehow preempted. of course, this isn’t possible: making the mistake in the first place was what gave you the experience and expertise to know how to retroactively preempt it in the first place. from this perspective, the mistake is actually a positive experience because it allows for future learning and growth.
that your error was somehow indicative of a low level of development. this may or may not be true, but even if it is i don’t think there’s any shame in that. after all we all start from somewhere, and that’s not necessarily indicative of how developed you can become, or how developed you are now. if anything, your interpretation of past you being at a relatively low level of development indicates that you are now at a higher level of development, indicating improvement.
anyways, those are just my thoughts. hope you feel better.
the first article was originally published in the german edition of the epoch times, so those are some pretty big alarm bells ringing. hope you figure this out, comrade.
