Depends on the position. Most people are hourly, but the annual is still used as a shorthand. Salaried workers aren’t paid by the hour, but to get a job done.
You generally don’t want to be salaried, because while it sounds like you can come and go as you please, most salaried positions have mandatory office hours. So you still work at least 40 hours a week, but don’t get paid for overtime.
There are laws regarding who can be salaried. The technical term is being FLSA Exempt, and the employee has to make a certain amount of money ($684/week), and have a role that classifies. Examples include executive, managerial (need a certain number of reports to classify), administrative, and highly-compensated employees ($107,432/yr).

It’s one of like 2 great jokes I remember through achievements. The other was a 4th wall joke from “High on Life” where a boss taunts you by giving you an achievement for “Spending 15 hours in the Alien Strip Club” and explains that it’s permanent and all your friends can see it now.
Anyone else remember the scene in Schindler’s list where the Nazis make a work camp Jew show how quickly he can make a part (a hinge I think), and then look at his completed parts bin and decide to kill him because he clearly hasn’t been working that speed the entire time?
The current AI push is specifically for killing people. The billionaires know their days are numbered, and that they’ll eventually vibe called to answer for their crimes. They’re trying to build a system to protect their power and wealth that doesn’t depend on potentially disloyal guards and militaries.
They replaced the city police with county police. The county will probably need to hire a few more officers. And what do you know - 5 people were just freed up in Henderson!
There was also a time when you also didn’t need Steam. You would buy a game, install it, and play it without having to connect to the internet at all. Growing up, a lot of friends had gaming PCs in their bedrooms with no internet connection at all.
And if you did do stuff online, it was secondary and the publisher didn’t want a cut. StarCraft actually let you play online without owning the game - it specifically included an installer (The Spawn) that was for installing the multiplayer for free on friends’ systems. You only needed the disc to play singleplayer.
I get that Sweeny doesn’t like to gargle Gabe’s billionaire balls as much as a lot of the users here, but Epic officially supporting Linux is a good thing.
