  • They might vote against our (and their) best interests but it’s important to note that if we want to get them on board, we can’t make them feel like victims or others. Ultimately politics isn’t about being more right its about convincing more people you’re right, and part of selling a wealth tax is getting the upper-middle class to realize that “socialists” don’t give a fuck about some guy making $1m/yr, and that “they’re coming for your money” is a lie for everyone except like 500 people total.

  • Fun fact: even these guys have such a tiny amount of money compared to Musky and friends that it wouldn’t be unreasonable to exempt them from a wealth tax. $500m is 0.05% of $1T.

$500m is still an absolutely absurd amount of money compared to the average person, but geometrically speaking Musky is to these guys’ summed bonus pool as these guys’ summed bonus pool is to $250,000. Not to say that we couldn’t/shouldn’t also tax the shit out of $500m, but I feel like people often get lost in weird debates when discussing wealth taxes conceptually. You could put the cutoff far above every single Goldman Sachs exec from a wealth tax and it would still be an insanely valuable revenue source for the public. The doctor making $1m/year isn’t your enemy, the business owner making $5m/year isn’t even close, even the Sachs executives are barely a drop in the bucket of wealth inequality. Musk, Bezos, Zuck… their wealth is truly incomprehensible and inexcusable.

  • Yea I’m not a Carney hater but this is absolutely not him critiquing the Canadian tax system.

Personally I don’t really care much about our business tax rates as I don’t think nearly as many companies are able to outright dodge taxation like in the US. I think our main issue with corporations here is monopolies, anticompetitive practices, and foreign ownership. Which I also haven’t seen much movement on tbh, other than trying to attract new players to our markets (vaguely competitive).

  • I’m not sold on the effect MAHA is having on this. I see many many left/center-left/center sorts of folks on the protein craze just from normie socials like Instagram. My wife’s Instagram is shoving high protein products, meal prep recipes, etc. at her non-stop and she occupies a very left part of the normie internet. I’m sure MAHA’s influence is non-zero but I think protein is simply the new matcha.

Yes we did buy 500g of expensive ass matcha from Kyoto and no we have not used more than 10g yet, almost a year later. /sigh
