Seeing Blackbird fly again after all these years would be incredible. I’d love to know what NASA has planned for it.

Do you know how hard it is to find a concise article about this that isn’t paywalled?

If that was the reason, wouldn’t it be the USAF and not NASA pulling them out of retirement?

If Trump came up with this, we’d have found out about it via Twitter the moment the thought came into his head.

The man tweets everything that comes into his head. If Trump came up with this, he’d have told everyone.

Blackbird didn’t overly the USSR. The U2 did, and they learned the hard way that Soviet missiles went a lot higher than anyone thought.

What’s really funny is the Blackbird was absolutely the cause of more than a few UFO sightings, some that have been confirmed in hindsight.

I think the most likely explanation is something like this, they want data they can’t otherwise get.

Maybe they have done that, they’re just really slow, and not actually any better than what we have?

Terrorism is, by definition, by a non state actor. If a government does it, it’s just a war crime.

That’s my thought as well, they want data for something they’re building.

I’m really hoping it’s NASA doing some really cool science shit, otherwise you’d expect a military organisation to be doing this.

A bomber interceptor is the role that comes to mind for me, a Blackbird could climb to altitude and intercept any bomber aircraft heading to the USA. I suspect the invention of the ICBM put a stop to that though.

Hey, at least it’s not paywalled.

It’s not a fighter, the SR71 is totally unarmed. The SR stands for Stealth Reconnaissance.

This really feels like Wired reached a conclusion before writing the article. The survey results aren’t amazing, but they’re a lot better than I’d have expected based on the article.
Obviously some very gross individual examples though.

SpaceX had an outage at their data centre, and because they sell computing power to other companies, it affected them as well.
That was two sentences stretched out into an article.
Not sure what I did, but I’m on there.
Just remember NASA are the ones doing this, not the air force. I don’t think they want to use it as a spy plane, and if they were designing a successor, you’d expect it to be the air force, or someone like DARPA doing this.
