How do Tags works in a post? Does it make it visible to Mastodon in a way?

Mastodon has ~1.5 Million active users, so better integration between PieFed and Mastodon could see massive growth in users and activity.

My thinking is, it would be great that, if a user makes a post on c/SouthAfrica that it would automatically be tagged with “South Africa” and be visible as a post on Mastodon.

Comments through Mastodon would then also show up on the post in PieFed, and visa versa.

  • The UX still has a long way to go.

I’m very tolerant of shitty tech and like a struggle, and even I am often like wtf.

Signed up to piefed.zip the other day, and the default feed is just horrendous

Most users will just quit instead of trying to figure out how to fix it manually.

    No proper onboarding

Misleading pricing:

Using the billing period as the header and showing the price for the billing period… except for monthly—which shows 1/4 the price and says “every week” in smaller, gray text.

Punishing non-subscription payments:

Adding a $6.50 (1400%) surcharge for wanting a weekly one-time payment instead of a recurring subscription.

Charging more for longer periods:

Monthly billing, once you remove the dark pattern and convert it to its actual price, is $2. There are 12 months in a year, meaning it would cost $24 to maintain that subscription for a year.

Why is the yearly subscription $29, then?

If you want to verify this for yourself, you’re going to need to clear your cookies and reload an article a lot. They do A/B tests and show different subscription requied modals. This one was the worst.

This is sneaky, but everyone seems to be doing it these days.

They in big letters advertise €1.53 per month, but on checkout you discover they don’t offer any monthly payment plans, you can only pay annually, and paying “only” one year upfront the price is 36% higher.

For the price you thought you’d be getting you need to pay 3 years upfront.
