Cake day: September 11th, 2026

After over a month of hosting this 3+ months old project on GitHub, this project seems to be finally gaining some user base

This is a prerelease version which i have tagged to be stable and slated for future release and add to main branch from the beta branch.

This highlight is less about asking you guys to try out the beta release but more in the honor of over 3+ months of development.
What makes me happy the most is that the project which i started even without a repository just to monitor my own system and usage has now come this far with over 50+ downloads 🎉☺️

This beta release now polishes on various little things which are actually necessary for a first time set up and proper user control as Now you can:

  • carries forward the settings screen from previous beta release
  • replaces notifications and sounds tab with general which now includes appearance settings
  • you can now Stop , restart or RESET the Daemon and its preferences in settings
  • Pomodoro settings which were half baked in the first release have now been added to settings to enable a looping focus mode for people at work with CUSTOM BREAK TIME
  • Most Importantly (i feel) FIRST time setup issues have been fixed and in an attempt the first time ScreenGuard daemon setup pop up dialog (1st image) has been made

The Release v0.1.1 releases this October by second week, and I will continue testing the beta version to look for sectors that need polishing if any.

This is still limited to GNOME on wayland and x11 for other environments systems and primarily developed by me on my fedora 44 system and the project ScreenGuard still has a very Long way to go;

But working on it alone has given me much exposure to project sharing on platforms and most importantly a lot of invaluable experience and the true zeal of development instead of the boredom of being a 9 to 5 dev at a corporate who don’t care for you.

The code for this is visible on the beta branch to keep the main working tree clean for new features additions.

Feedback from other desktop environments is widely appreciated, u can try the application out by switching to x11 session temporarily if you are using any DE which is not GNOME wayland or if u are on a DE which is primarily x11 based (Cinnamon, i3, etc) then u are good to go as they ARE FULLY SUPPORTED.

thank you everyone for your supports, criticisms and feedbacks ever since the project came online on github.

a small update to this digital wellbeing software since my last post.

  • Let’s be real , this is apple that we are speaking about… The won’t add a fckin fingerprint scanner on you phone along side the face unlock, will shove through your throats the bugged Vibecoded slop of an os that ios liquid glass is with an eternity of bugs and also the Latest Mac OS Golden Gate, WIL NOT allow you to side load apps or even install one unless they are pain, Will take a fortune of your wallets to even give u a developer certification for the IOS softwares and MOST funny thing of ALL , WILL skip any major updates on hardware let alone their sloppy software after an entire goddarm years wait instead wasting time and revenue over some trivial sht as this patent.

    The entire idea of this closed source nature needs to be overcome, don’t think I am some android fan guy as i criticize their latest acts as well , they are following apple as well in their footsteps… At this point…the only thing which I loved the most important thing of Apple, ecosystem integration along with fine tuned software seems to be vanishing…WHY would someone even consider them now? Reason: no one else comes close to them yet … despite all these factors nothing comes close to them…MacOS bs linux isn’t a question yet … because sadly again arm systems of Linux are vastly in development…and their is no perfect widescale foss alternative to ios yet…

    But one day we will outgrow them …WE WILL

A few days ago i made a post sharing my software ScreenGuard which received mixed reviews , since I AM using it for myself i decided to take in the reviews and am working towards adding necessary features and primarily polishing up things that were left behind and can have some 1st time setup hiccups The new features-

* Settings menu added

General tab(control notifications and sounds)

- add notification sounds(custom options too)

-toggle sounds and notifications for various causes

- dark mode(asked bby a few people so added the option)

Tracker Daemon tab

-stop background daemon

- toggle autostart of daemon on boot

- warning when daemon is off Pomodoro timer tab

- Turn on pomodoro in focus mode settings (fixes the unbaked settings of focus mode in v0.1.0 -set break between pomodoros

- no of pomodoro loops

* Daily limits can now be set instead of the fixed 8hr daily limit bug with v0.1.0

* Several changes to Daemon, including some minute layout changes to optimise resources while adding the newer features which are Stated above

Note: this is a beta release and will NOT be pushed to the repository, meant for testers and people eager to help me out find the bugs and tiny issues here and there.
