If you are wondering what exactly is causing the freezes and hangs, the culprit is the “Secure-Boot-Update scheduled task”. As the name suggests, this runs a scheduled Secure Boot update whenever you are online or connected to the internet. That is why many affected users initially thought the issue was related to the internet as they noticed the bug won’t show up when they were offline.

Does anyone know why Windows Update has been such a shitshow in the last years? Yes, they have Windows on billions of devices and that is complicated. But they’ve done stuff that never should happen anywhere.

They also did a pretty aggressive clearing of house in the earlier 2020s (something like 2022?) of senior employees and their RTO has also cleared some senior people.
The process knowledge that these people have is irreplaceable.
