GTA 6 is getting a $400 collector’s set filled with Vice City-themed goodies, but it won’t include a copy of the game.
- ytsedude@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
The game hasn’t even come out yet, and I’m already sick of hearing about it…
iamthetot@piefed.caEnglish
6 daysI understand the sentiment, but I think paying attention to this stuff is important. Like it or not, they are a huge part of the zeitgeist and they can set trends. This is one I’d like to not see. It’s important this shit is reported on and pushed back against, hard.
- creamfresh@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
Pushed back? By whom? This merch set will sell out and other IP owners are envious their franchises don’t have the same ridiculous traction.
iamthetot@piefed.caEnglish
6 daysI haven’t seen a single positive comment about this so far even in spaces dedicated for fans of GTA, but I also fully recognize that does not necessarily reflect the majority of consumers.
- corey931@lemmy.wtfEnglish5 days
That’s how shitty it must be. They’re just cashing in on the hype before everybody knows
Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish
6 daysCan’t wait to pirate this fucking game when a crack comes out. It’s not like anyone can actually own a copy.
- I_Jedi@lemmy.todayEnglish6 days
It would be wise to run such things in a VM. I would expect Rockstar to post some editions of GTA6 on pirate sites themselves, except with some spyware attached.
Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.comEnglish
5 daysYou all not having a windoz-game-box and a linux for all serious stuff?
TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.caEnglish
6 daysThat’s $570CAD for a bunch of rebranded Aliexpress tat.
I would be laughing if I didn’t know that this game will make sales and profit history.
iamthetot@piefed.caEnglish
6 daysAnd, I cannot stress this enough, doesn’t come with the game. Even though the game doesn’t have a disc version. They couldn’t even include a damn code.
- adarza@lemmy.caEnglish6 days
image the reaction if a $400us collector bundle was the only way to get a physical disc.
bigbangdangler@reddthat.comEnglish
6 daysGamers: just let us buy a physical copy of the game
Rockstar: lol here’s some random swag for $400
Sadly Rockstar knows their market here. This thing will sell out, and the game itself will license like hotcakes.
- cheat700000007@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
The stupid waste your money set comes with a coke spoon. They know exactly who they’re selling to
bigbangdangler@reddthat.comEnglish
5 daysYou can only license coke now. Obviously it’s too dangerous if you can own it.

As a collector, it’s essentially over for me. I don’t know how many of us are out there that feel that way, but I used to spend a lot of money on games and now I’m going out of my way to not buy any anymore console games. Switch and their virtual cards can also suck it. If I can’t fire something up in 20 years and it can’t play a game, I might as well stick to PC, right? I spent 30 years building my library and owning my games. I guess being able to lend a game to a friend was costing them too much. The resale of used games were dollar signs that they felt belonged to them. Fuck it all.
ampersandrew@lemmy.worldEnglish
6 daysIn the last decade or so, this became more common so that they didn’t have to make 3 SKUs of the same collector’s edition and could also sell these items to digital purchasers. But in this case, there is no disc, so how hard could it be to ship these things with a download code for your $400?
- jownz@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
They’re rubbing it in now. Just let me buy a physical copy ffs. I lined up at midnight to get my copy of GTA 5 on the PS3.
ripcord@lemmy.worldEnglish
5 daysI’d really like them to sell me a physical copy too, except that I have zero intention of buying or playing this game. And yeah I bought the last 3 or 4. GTA 5 twice.
Are there really that many people out there willing to part with $400 for a mismash of merchandise?
SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.worldEnglish
6 daysSomeone just shelled out 1.2 million to name a porn star’s baby. $400 ain’t nothing to some people.
- 6 days
Just looked this up and for anyone wondering: The pornstar is Bonnie Blue and it was actually a gambling company that bought naming rights. The gambling company is naming the child after itself. Bonnie said she was going to look into the company, and as of now there is no evidence that the child has actually been named that. Gambling companies are doing lots of weird viral marketing lately, so it’s possible this whole thing was prearranged.
- rf_@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
As long as there are consumer whores buying this crap they’ll keep making it. I’m surprised they don’t offer a $1000 version that comes out a week earlier.
- 6 days
Yeah, well. I’ll 3D print you some GTA themed swag and put it in a box that also doesn’t include the game, except I’ll do it for $375. How about that?
- aeronmelon@lemmy.worldEnglish6 days
This reminds me of when the World of Warcraft Collectors Editions stop including CD soundtracks.
“Oh, a code for lossy MP3s. Yay.”
- NarrativeBear@lemmy.worldEnglish5 days
Merch is a strong term, it look more mediocre low-quality trash.
