It’s that the whole American government, or at least a good portion of it, just goes along with it and allows it all to happen and normalize it all. Their leader is there because there is an entire community of professionals, academics, supporters, wealthy leaders, officials, bureaucrats and politicians all want him to be there. Trump isn’t some god king that magically is able to do or say all this … he’s there because enough people who are in control want him there.

I’m up in Canada and when I look at these headlines every day … it just affirms my belief that America is a failed democracy. Everyone keeps calling it a democracy but it’s only a name or description at this point because it certainly doesn’t function like one any more.
I’m in no special place either … we are on our way downhill up here as well. We’re not at the same level as the US but we are on our way there. The whole first world system is slowly morphing into some sort of weird Corporatocracy.

I’m also in Canada, but I’m a bit more optimistic about our direction. When you zoom out and look at Canada’s usual electoral cycles, the last election should have been an absolutely guaranteed Conservative win. The fact that we allowed the Liberals to pivot rightward (but not nearly as far as the Conservatives), and not only retain control of government, but actually gain seats, presents a major deviation leftward from our usual pattern.

Otherwise it’s just a dictator’s vanity project with zero justification for the wasted taxpayer’s money, and the courts can shut it down. But when there’s military-anything involved, it becomes a defense project.
Because they expect a civil war, or some sort of massive uprising. And I’m not naive, I don’t expect this to be some glorious, organized revolution of the shining proletariat. It will be chaotic, disjointed, and without goal (at least at first). Whether it’ll be armed or not, peaceful or not (at least to start with), doesn’t matter. They know DC will be a hot zone.

Whether he knows this, or his handlers, I don’t really think it matters. They know that something will break eventually. Yes, I know we all call out Americans’ apathy and make doomer jokes about them never rising up. But there IS another great depression coming (not recession, depression), gas will almost certainly go past $6 or $7 a gallon nationwide, food will become completely unaffordable, I suspect over 40% of people will be unemployed. And unlike the first Great Depression, we have mass surveillance, AI, a world MUCH MUCH more dependent on central supply chains, and so much more shit.
They know something is coming. Yes, USians suck and are so fucking apathetic, but that will crack eventually.

By virtue of having said that, you could almost be assured that the military would not use it for such purpose, except to serve as a visible threat against peaceful protestors.
Those golden eagles can have laser eyes to shoot down any incoming missiles (or bags of drugs catapulted over the border by MS-13, for that matter).
The incoming missiles to justify this can be provided by the fact that there’s now a prominent structure packed with ammunition standing at the centre of the US capital, a target too good to pass up.
In other words, nobody is funding it for him, so he’s come up with an excuse to use military funds to build it.
