It’s ok if you don’t, but if you do, try peaches too!

Pizza is already made with fruit as one of its centerpieces.
Pineapple and Ham are a wonderful combination.
They go really well in a tangy sweet marinara on baked bread. Coated in cheese, too.
So yes

I think Hawaiian pizza is one of those foods I’ve always hated because I had poor experiences with it growing up. Sort of like shepherd’s pie, which I only knew of through the abomination served at the high school caf.
But recently, I tried it at a new pizzeria that opened near me. They honestly used real ham like you would get at an Easter banquet. Not the processed sandwich meat. And that was actually really good with pineapple!

I think so. Nutella on a pizza make it a giant cookie, and I prefer pizza over cookies.
- 11 days
I mean we do, but its basically nutella and bread because it’s just the dough+nutella
What we really accept here that would make no sense to american is
Wurstel and patatine on pizza Kebap on pizza (full kebap) Also seafood
- 11 days
The last two are pretty standard in Europe, I’d say. But the first one I’ve never heard of.
- 11 days
You mean the wurstel and frenchfries?
We call it Americana and it’s ate by children and tasteless people.
- 10 days
Yeah, I don’t get it, but to each their own I guess, lol.
MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.worksEnglish11 daysI think actual Italians wouldn’t mind that much. Have you seen the original pizzas? They’re mostly fruit.
- Pixel_Jock_17@piefed.caEnglish11 days
Oh were arguing this now? I thought it was like confirmed and done, its a fruit. Pretty cool

11 daysFun fact, “Hawaiian” pizza with pineapple was invented at Satellite Pizza in Chatham-Kent, a small town in rural Ontario, Canada.
- 11 days
If it was invented in Hawaii, it would just be called pizza (in Hawaiian)
Damn. Don’t know whether to upvote for Pic or downvote for the text. My head is spinning.
Nah, I lean optimistic. Upvote but stipulating that’s it’s for photo!

11 daysI saw this meme for the first time nearly a decade ago but it still makes me laugh.
I am compelled. When poor Italians came to the US way back in the day, they were getting jobs where they made a bit more money which allowed them to basically unlock a lot more toppings than they used to use in Italy. They would add all sorts of weird things. I don’t recall anyone using pineapple at that time but if they had access to it I’m 100% sure they would’ve tried bc it matched the spirit of their other toppings ventures. Anyway, pineapple, bacon bits, and jalapeño is a really good combo.

You don’t recall eh, you over a 100 years old? In all seriousness pineapple on pizza originated in Canada.

11 daysOne of my grandparents is an Italian immigrant and it’s very much this. Grew up with “here try this” and “have more” because they’d be damned if anyone under their roof went hungry or felt like they had to hold back. They also like all sorts of pizza toppings, because they had to eat nothing but dandelions while hiding from Nazis.
Having grown up poor myself I’m a lot the same way as an adult, too. If someone wants food or drink in my home or while out with me they get it, no questions asked. Adventurousness is encouraged, and a happy belly means I did my job right.
- Rothe@piefed.socialEnglish11 days
The other way round. Americans are actually quite conservative when it comes to pizzatoppings. Most Americans have never heard of tuna or potatoes as toppings for example. They seem to stick to a handful of different meats, and that is basically it. There is a lot more variety in other countries, and also in Italy in particular.

My favorite pizza was a BLT, now I’m a veggie and make LT pizza with mayo and it’s close but not the same. The fake impossible chicken is getting pretty good, but no fake beacon I’ve tried comes close.
- 11 days
Light life is good IMO but not crazy close but mybacon is so good and for sure the closest I’ve had
Edit: meant to say its also incredibly expensive but a good treat

Hawaiian pizza was actually invented by a Greek immigrant in Canada, oddly enough
- 11 days
Nothing odd about that.
The reason why America has the best food is because of this. Wave after wave is immigrants from all over the world over several hundred years, bringing their food culture, adapting, mixing with indigenous food, feeling free to experiment, and mixing with other cultures.
Just don’t call me out because “Canada”. I love Canada, have a Canada escape plan, and appreciate the differences. It’s that there’s much more culture shock going to various parts of the US than their geographically similar places in Canada.
- 11 days
The reason I called it odd is because a food named after Hawaii is neither invented in Hawaii nor by a Hawaiian
- 11 days
Uh-huh. And hamburgers weren’t invented in Hamburg and frankfurters weren’t invented in Frankfurt.
It’s pretty universal that names are both technically wrong and given by outsiders.
- 11 days
It’s funny, my issue with it has always been that they add ham with it. Fuck that, give me pepperoni and some sort of (not shitty green bell) pepper like a jalapeno or banana pepper and pineapple is great.
- 11 days
They cook pineapple incorrectly on pizza. It needs to cook for a long time at a low heat to properly caramelise.
- Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.deEnglish10 days
Or you do dried pineapple.
Don’t use fresh pineapple or it will make the entire pizza wet.
- 11 days
I fucking love pineapple on pizza, so long as the pizza is fresh and not frozen.

I can’t tell if people are downvoting this because it’s reddit or the title they should actually watch the video it’s great
