The document, titled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba,” was supported by 130 countries.
17 countries voted against: the United States, Israel, Ukraine, Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Hungary, Lithuania, Morocco, North Macedonia, Paraguay, Slovenia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates.
25 countries abstained: Albania, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Montenegro, Netherlands, Palau, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Moldova, Romania, and the Solomon Islands.
The right-wing resurgence in many Latin American countries, lies and pressure from the United States, unfortunately, played a role: Last year, the resolution calling for an end to the Cuban blockade was supported by 165 countries, 7 voted against, and 12 abstained. Nevertheless, the global majority remains with Cuba.
