What are some of your favorite flannels and what makes a flannel good? What flannels are you excited to be wearing this fall and into the winter?

16 daysThere’s a range of ‘farm stores’ in my area which is the exclusive place to get good flannel.

Hell yeah! I’d trust the quality of a farm store over a cost cutting name brand store any day and forget about Amazon.
Got details on their flannels? Light weight or bulky? Very fuzzy or almost flat? Bright colors or more earthy? I want to know more.

16 daysI’ll update you next time I get a new flannel, but IIRC it’s only Red, Blue and Green, fuzzy at first but they go flat after a while and pretty sturdy material.

I would appreciate it! This community is basically just two dudes posting fit pics and me posting nerd stuff that happens to be about clothes so it would be cool to have a 4th poster when you get a new shirt or just take pics of your current ones

I got one from Orvis last year at Costco. It’s not the traditional pattern but rather a solid deep green. It’s nice and thick 100% cotton with a brushed exterior. It feels absolutely great to wear and I can’t wait! It just needs to get a little colder.

Nice! One of my favorite flannels is an old orvis. I love the big chinky yarns they used, very warm yet breathable. Two chest pockets and long arms and a wide neck are nice perks too. Oddly enough also has a pair of hidden hip pockets so I can pull double duty as a shirt jacket.

Orvis make some really nice clothes, they are not just a fishing brand

Outdoor Research makes my favorite flannels. They’re expensive (I typically buy from them during sales), but they are so well made and comfortable. And they somehow don’t hold onto dog fur as badly as some others tend to.

They might be best for “PNW Male Fashion Advice” or “Cozy Fashion Advice” (buy an oversized one for around the house–so nice). But I do think they look good while also being functional and comfortable.
I should mention that I am in the PNW.

15 daysThe problem with rubbing elbows is that if two of you have patches like this, the friction may start a fire.

The fabric makes the flannel, so let’s get that clear from the jump. And a good flannel fabric has a nice, soft nap. Double brushed is good, but not always necessary. Solid or plaid, but I prefer a bold fall color like red or orange; buffalo plaid is a reliable choice.
Try Johnson Woolen Mills for a good product at sub $100 price.

Duluth Trading Company makes my favorite flannels. Heavyweight and lightweight (I always get 100% cotton), and the large buttons are a plus. The underarm gusset and larger tail are awesome too.

I’ve got two flannels from them. I do like the buttons and the gussets but the sleeves shrunk too much for me so now they are relegated to mild weather with rolled up sleeves only.

I shrank a few too, until I washed them in cold (Tap cold, according to my washer) and air-dried them. Now all of my DTC shirts are factory-sized years later. YMMV
