12 daysUhhhh
Ok, I feel so weird asking this but…
Is this mascot why brazil nuts have a very racist nickname? I’ve only heard about their nickname from other people who got it from boomer and silent generation, so the timeline matches…

If anyone else is curious, the nickname was “n**ger toes”. Had to look that up.
big yikes

I don’t think so. I think they were called that because of their shape and their dark color with parts of the skin on. It’s not uncommon to name foods after body parts (ladyfingers come to mind).
The mascot above doesn’t have toes.

12 daysThat’s fair, could be.
I know he doesn’t have toes, but it could still be where the association with body parts came from.
Yeah I’m almost a little surprised they didn’t use the uh cough other name.
Which I’ve only heard from my very elderly grandpa. He doesn’t call them that, but he hit me with a fun fact a while back lol

12 daysWant another fun fact?
Of course you do!
Brazil nut allergens are sexually transmittable! Only known food allergens that are!
How about another?
Technically they aren’t even nuts, but seeds!

My Midwestern grandparents would apparently tell their kids: “roll up the windows and lock the doors, we’re going through n-town.” when they drove through the city.

12 daysI heard similar from various sources growing up, but replace the slur with “ghetto”.
Same message, same racism, except with an extra layer of classism. Thankfully, those people are all dead now. :)

Considering the mascot has no toes or discernable “race”, I’m gonna go with no.

Fit and healthy? Even delicious is highly debatable. The blandest and lamest of all nuts there are.
